I brought the megs 123 'kit' from halfords in their 3 for 2 offer a few weeks back.

I've heard that the step 3 wax is not that good long term?, does anyone have any advice for me using this 123 system?

Best methods or alternative/additional products?

Cheers

I agree with Sisson mate, the first two products are pretty good but def top it with a different wax! Collinite will give you good durability......

NXT wax is Sh!t IMO - just plain awful to apply and does not really give a great shine

I don't rate any of the NXT stuff, its the real low end budget of the Meguiars kit, and just yields poor results every time

if you want a really good 123 step kit to get your car up to scratch, visit cleanyourcar.co.uk and order the following:

Shampoo - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-drying/meguiars-00-hi-tech-wash/prod_99.html (gives a mirror like shine before you have even started polishing)

Clay Bar - Sonus Grey Detailing clay - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/sonus-grey-block-detailing-clay/prod_81.html

Polish - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/meguairs-80-speed-glaze/prod_91.html (for cars with their paint work in already good condition)

Glaze - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/glazes/meguiars-7-show-car-glaze/prod_92.html (for that deep rich enhancing look)

Sealant - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/meguiars-21-synthetic-sealant/prod_206.html (to protect the polish and glaze applied)

Wax - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/victoria-wax-3oz-concours-wax/prod_312.html

To me thats pretty normal (but also expensive), depends how far you want to go or how good you want your car to look, and perhaps a bit over the top for what you want

in regards to the wax, I would strongly recommend what I have posted above

Agreed that Megs isn't the best out there (far from it) but for a begginers point of veiw it's better than some other brands.
NXT isn't hard to use at all, but if you use better brands like the ones you have listed you can expect better results. NXT is a good replacement for the stage 3 if your on a budget or just beggining.

Step two isn't a polish at all - it contains no abrasives, its just acts as a glaze exactly as per Megs #7 (a pro range product).

NXT is a sealant, and more than that its designed to be used as an all in one product so it has cleaners in it. Anything you have already put on would be removed during the application of NXT.

Nice one.......Thanks for all your replies.................might use the no. 3 up on the GF car and get myself some Vic. Wax or similar.

I'm glad steps 1 & 2 are good otherwise that would have been £16 well spend....not!

its ok mate, I started out with that sort of stuff when being a novice with car cleaning, tis all good till you want to learn more and get a better shine from it

what ever you do, and this is probably one of the best tips, make sure you use the two bucket method when washing the car

this is one of the best guides to looking after the paint work with cleaning the car through the correct methods - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27
