Fuel filler

Hi

Following delivery of my FR TDI with a quarter of a tank of diesel in it, I went to the pumps to fill up.

However, the nozzle did not seem to go in very far even if I twisted it round, almost as if the shape was wrong.

As it was not in properly, every time I squeezed on the handle only a small amount of fuel went it before the cut-off kicked in on the nozzle. I spent about 10 minutes putting in a few pence at a time, eventually gave up and ended up with about £12 worth.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Many thanks!

Yep, I had that problem first time I filled my 1.9TDi up.

I'd pulled up at the only free pump with the filler on the far side away from the pump, so I had to bring the hose round the back of the car to reach.

I figured that was the problem. Now I queue until there is a free pump on the 'right' side  Haven't had a problem since.

I've had petrols up until now, don't know why diesels (or supermarket diesel pumps) are 'fussy' about how the filler is inserted.

Er...... this is probably more of a problem with the petrol station pump than with the car........

Went to a different garage, different town, same problem. However I put the nozzle in, at whatever angle, it just will not put any fuel in. I get the auto cutout all the time.

Eventually twisting it round right pushed against the side it did let me get a whole tank in, but not without quite a few cutouts and re-adjustments.

This is strange!

give it a good push in, its a tight fit when they are new.

It wont go all the way in, perhaps 50% in.

only goes about half way in on mine too, will rotate when in though. I believe it's designed to stop muppets filling their diesel up with unleaded. It is a bit fussy, but having filled up a couple of dozen times now it does seem to have freed up a wee bit now.

you need to release the pressure from the tank if you look at the filler neck there should be a black nob push it with the nozzle from the petrol pump and that will relese it
