Anyone with Ekta or any parts manual - can you tell me what is the correct steering rack to be put on my Ibiza?

Ive got a 2003 (Reg in Sept 03) Mk4 1.4 Seat Ibiza S.

I've had ridiculous amounts of costly problems with my steering system, and today, a seat specialist said the problem might have started because the 'wrong' rack was put on. This seat specialist still could not fix the problem, after replacing the steering pump, and steering sensor for the SECOND time!

I had the rack put on ages ago, when the problems started, was the first component i replaced. On monday im going to go the garage that did the rack and find out exaxctly what rack is on there.

Ill have to take the car to the dealer now, guess theyll strip the wiring or somehting. "Pressure Sensor" fault keeps coming up, and malfunctions the PAS.

So can anyone tell me exactly what rack should have been put on my car?

You'll be a big help!!

Shouldnt there be a part number on your "wrong" rack to compare with the propper number? Really the garage should be able to find out themselves what part numbered rack your car requires

The car was ready to pick up this evening, and i missed picking it up, and have to wait till monday morning now. My plan was to go from my garage, to the one that fitted the rack, and find out exactly what rack they fitted, genuine or not. I was hoping to find out what rack is right for the car here, so when im at that garage, soon as they tell me what they fitted, i can work out if it was wrong or not.

Otherwise, ill have to find out what rack was fitted, and somehow get the dealer to tell me what is the right rack. I'm going to phone the dealer and ask them what rack goes on, but last time i wanted part numbers for the PAS sensor, they couldnt even tell me that!!! Can you believe it?! Had to phone the local Skoda garage, and still iw as getting two part numbers.

The garage told me thats the only thing he could think is causing the problems, obviously i didnt believe it completely, but after some research, i've found out they put a non genuine rack on, so im thinking its not completetly right for the car.

Maybe the without genuine Seat parts, the sensor will go off? Thats what im hoping...

Apparantly the "Pressure Sensor" fault wont go away, and keeps coming up.

When you say they have all the same racks listed, is that all Seat Racks are the same?

the is no such thing as a non genuine rack realy. as all re-condisioned racks genuine racks re built. the rack body is the same as is the rack bar and pinion.
new seals end rods and bearing are fitted but that want upset any of the sensers! one common fault on these racks is that the back bush in the n/s of the rack rusts. this expands and grips the rack bar tight. then the car want ''self center"

But even the garage that fitted the rack are admitting its not a genuine rack. Are you saying its therefore a reconditioned rack? Because it looks brand new when you look at it (i dont have very high mechanical skills obv). What worries me about your post is the garage at first offered me a reconditioned rack, or a brand new one for a small price difference, and i took the new one. according to you they are the same bloody thing because my rack is not Seat according to two garages.

Are you a seat technician? Any idea what can cure a "pressure sensor" fault light? Ive already replaced the sensor twice, and the pump.

Thanks for the replies, any info im getting is helping.

if it's any help, there were two different makes fitted, Koyo and TRW the KOYO has a circular sensor whilst the other has an oval type, other wise they look alike but I don't know if the pump and rack have to be a matched pair

Hmm intresting. Its going into Seat on Monday, and they are going to tell me if it could be the rack giving me problems, or at least what they would do to fix it. Ive also had the pump replaced couple weeks back.

Im scared this is going to happen if i dont get it sorted quick:
