LCR Owners....

Got a few questions for all the LCR owners,

i am seriosuly thinking about buying one and wanted to know a few things.

do people use Unleaded or SuperUnleaded?

Also i am thinking about replacing the Airbox with either a pannel filter or an induction kit, not decided which one. Also do people declare this mod on there insurance or not?

Most people on here will suggest super, use super in my LC.

Do as search for air filters as you can imagine fairly common question.

I always use super and I think most people on this forum do the same. The only time I use normal is if I go to a garage (like on a motorway) and the super is some crazy price, so I put in 20 quid or so until i can fill up on the super.

I am not sure whether you can or should use 'normal' unleaded all the time. Its been debated on here several times but with no definitive answer. I must admit I do not feel any real diference when driving between the 2 but they say the engine prefers higher octane fuel and therefore you should get better perfomance and also a few extra miles to.

You can use normal unleaded in a LCR.
As mentioned its been discuessed a few times.
However, most will report the LCR running alot better on super and many will also swear by better mileage.
Ive had a LC and LCR and i found that i did get more miles per tank on the LC with super. (20-30 miles) The LCR is fundamentally the same engine so the same applies. I run mine on super only.
(note if you use super the ecu will adapt to this, if you then put in normal unleaded it wont do it any harm but the ECU will adapt to that fuel pretty much immediately. For safety the ecu will adapt to lower grade fuel very fast, but will adapt to hogher grade fuel slowely)

Therefore, yes, you can use normal unleaded. But it makes sense to use super and is probably not more once better running/mileage is calculated in.
In your case id say its almost a no brainer as you are already talking mods. Its counter prdouctive to spend on mods that give marginal gains at a fair cost to then save pennies on fuel.

yeah defintely super
now the prices are stupider than ever i tend to chuck 1 tank of normal in for every 3 of super.

as said, if i stop somewhere where the price is rediculous i put normal unleaded in

I would suggest changing the panel filter to a Green Cotton panel filter which you do not need to declare.

If you can be bothered then I would also take out the crappy 2" tube that feeds the airbox down the inside of the wing and replace with some bigger tubing.

i cant see that the type of fuel you use has any effect on the turbo.

decent oil and correctly cooling the engine will.

The more expensive fuels like Shell and BP have more 'cleaners' in them which alledgedly work, I remember EVO mag did some tests a few years back and the cars looked less coked up on Shell Vs Supermarket fuel. This won't have a bearing on the turbo, regular oil changes and good quality oil is the key

cheers for all the advice, can see the mod list growing already.... oh boy not good. so far would replace air filter and put a new stereo in...

what other mods would be worth while that will not cripple my insurance...

Short Shofter from Forge won't change your insurance and is a nice mod
Dog Bone engine mount (do some searching) also won't change your insurance and is a nice mod

Then get it remapped

Mine's remapped so I stick with super - Shell Optimax or Tesco 99RON (which has had some surprisingly good reviews, and hasn't knackered my oxygen sensor yet!)

So yeah I recommend a remap.
