Cupra(180) or tdi(150) ? ?

the only thing i have against diesels is the noise!no more chance of turning heads than a van screaming past!also i raced a remapped fabia rs not so long ago and pulled away in std 180.
glad he never got infront tho as i wouldnt have seen him for the volcanic ash pouring from the exhaust!!

I've been in Slicks car and that certainly turns heads!!

PDs mainly sound a bit tractory on start up.

So what have we all learnt from this?

I think with all this talk about diesels taking petrols so on... i ask myself how much fuel is being saved from the diesel if the revs are hitting red line all day long. At the end of the day buying a diesel is a way of covering more miles and less filling up is it not??but whats the point if you are gonna cain the car around you may as well buy the petrol one for that.

Oh and I bet no diesel non remap could take me. Ive kept up with cupra r too must be my driving?

in all fairness ive realisedn over the past few months if you are goin for a petrol just stretch that bit further and go for the lcr.wish i had.
remaps induction kits and exhausts added on to a lc are ££££ that couldve been used on buying the car you are trying to be.still love mine tho.street sleeper looks!

the comment i didnt agree with was that a mapped tdi 150 will keep up with an LCR, crap

Mind if I put 2pence worth. Well, Ive a revo 150 and yes it keeps with 225 lcr's

I did a test with a mates lcr, pre/post the tdi revo. Trust me not much in it till daft speeds (private road) once the map was on. Pre map I was whipped badly at any speed.

I've raced lcr's off the mark and pulled half to car length upto 60- 70. Tho that could be down to inexperienced drivers. I can't comment about a 180 mapped, but non mapped against a tdi mapped, no chance.

I've a heavy foot hence the tdi, but I still get at least 45mpg, and if good in the low 50s.

fair comment the diesels are becoming quicker however why buy a diesel for performance.if you "drive it like you stole it!" economy isnt great so for me pd's are just motorway missiles.

Hey there im very happy with my cupra its not remapped just a few mods here and there but only coz i enjoy working on her. Oh and even if i had a Cupra R i would still be modding so that wouldnt change.

i bought my tdi, and mapped it as its a compromise. I wanted good mpg and performance. Which it does well. I can "drive it like you stole it!" and it will still return a higher mpg than a 1.8t "driving like miss daisy". I'll no doupt return to a petrol at some stage, but I'll well happy at the mo'.

sorry punch it!!!think im just going through a love hate relationship with mine coz its been up and down since ive changed things on it!!!(and its off the road right now!!)i agree if i had an lcr id still mod it but theres no more powerful alternative in the leons FACT if you like thrashing it alot go petrol if not.....scania do an alternative!!!

Mapped 180 v Mapped 150 would be very close I feel. We need to do some conclusive scientific testing

FR TDi here. Standard. Had a go with a fellow leon owner Cupra 180. Neck and neck all the way. Rolling start though onto by pass ( private one that is ). Top end started to pull away ( very marginally). For me its an easy answer! Go TDi. You wont regret it. Get a REMAP and you will be grinning all the way!!

Here we go again...
As has already been said, the amount of times the petrol v diesel argument has reared it's very ugly head on here... Wish I'd got a quid for each time it's happened over the last 4 years I've been on here, never mind before that!

Horses for courses I reckon. If I was going to buy a new car, I'd drive both first then work out the long term differences on paper before taking the plunge. I find it quite funny to read all the "Oh dear, what should I do?" postings on here. What about long term servicing costs, over one, two, three years? Especially if it's used?

I liked both of my little yellow Leon tractors and have been well pleased with my cars - saving up for a Mk II FR TDI now (yellow of course). For me, the oil burner was the obvious choice as I (usually) keep my cars for 3 or 4 years, cover 14K+ a year, and over that time, it makes more economic sense. Emotional sense? That's for you to decide..

One thing that has been common in all the arguments, is the petrolhead's fall-back argument about smoke, tractors, noise, etc. And the dervhead's counter argument about MPG...

Lets try and come up with some new argument fall-backs. Hmmm... stinky fingers and plastic gloves? Sounds like a gynaecologists... Spark plugs versus glow plugs...? Coil packs versus injectors...?

Its always going to be there, its like story or fairytale one side against there other...

I vote for maybe a track day or test day where we pit petrol and diesels against each other to put a end to it...

(Actually thinking about it, bet it still wouldnt shut either side up... lol)

But i think it would be a great day, really see if all the fables and rumours that have been posted are true... i mean get a petrol head to drive with a Derv and vice versa, first hand knowledge, instead of telling each other what colour our grass is from the otherside of the bridge.... if you get my meaning...
