Hi guys,

Just entered 'the dark side' and bought a Leon Cupra R yesterday off one of the members on the site.

Its black with the recaro interior - i only collected it last night, but everything seems good at the moment!

Fitted my stereo and ipod to it with a mate last night so its starting to feel like mine now!

Previous owner has really looked after it well and its just had new tyres, water pump, service, cam-belt etc. so hopefully not a lot to go wrong!

I will post some pictures up when it stops raining!

Have had quite a mixed history of cars (about 27 in total!) - last one was an
e36 m3 evo, had a boxster 2.7 before that, a bmw 328ci before that...so its a nice change to have a hot hatch!

Fairwell my lovely LCR, Chris (started this thread) bought my LCR, and Im fairly gutted about the loss, but as per a lot of advice and a long drawn out decision I finally took the plunge:

Where did I go?
http://www.bm3w.co.uk/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=553409&an=0&page=0#553409

I guess both Chris and I feel we went to the dark side. :)

Fairwell everyone, and thanks for everything, Ill miss you, and the car.

Hairy - especially thanks to you for the offer of helping out fitting new brake pads that time a while back.

Its a great community here and a such a stupendous motor. I have to say guys and girls, on any big road, the Cupra R feels faster than the M3 once the turbo kicks in. Maybe its the balance of the M3 making it feel slower, I guess what Im saying is the LCR feels more extreme and fun a lot of times.
On the lanes and twisties though the M3 is a lunatic, but at the moment Im a little wary of getting bitten badly by it.

Take care, and thanks again for everything.
Mark

The M3 Evo was great and the example i had was extremely clean for its age....however, i was constantly worried about what it was going to cost me!

The guy who owned it before me paid £1500 on a new VANOS with bmw warranty which was good news, but everything is expensive!

Tyres - far from cheap...rear tyres you wont see much change from £450!

Servicing - Inspection 1 & 2 through bmw was scary - Insp. 2 wouldnt see much change from £1100!

Fuel consumption - actually, this was very reasonable....pushing it on a run (90mph-ish) could achieve 31mpg! not bad for 321bhp! around town 24mpg.

Performance - feels MUCH quicker as a passenger than as a driver. 0-60mph in a little over 5 seconds and 155mph restricted top end. My car didnt have traction control etc. so it was literally raw power on the road - great laugh and it didnt once catch me out...but you have to respect it! (my boxster was bad from that point of view...sometimes felt majorly out of its depth!)

But i didnt buy it under any illusion that i could run it on a shoe string! (although over 7 months, it only cost me £7 for some new fuses!)

My car was coming up for 2 new tyres, an inspection 1 and a few other bits and bobs...so was going to cost me at least £1000....so i sold it and got back £300 more than i paid for it.

Owning it was a good experience, but having just bought a house needed something less costly, more practical, (hopefully) more reliable in the long run and a bit less flash - also the e36 m3 looks a bit 'bling on a budget' due to the fact soo many 318's etc. look like them! that was the downside....thats whats nice about the newer E46 - they are more difficult to copy (i.e. puffed arches etc.)

I would definitely buy another - but next one will be an E46 in say 2-3 years hopefully....Mark, maybe in a few years i could afford yours!

yea i was tempted by an RX8 last year but wasnt convinced by it....drove the slower 192bhp one or whatever it was...didnt do much for me at all! maybe the 231 is better.

But apart from that, doesnt have the same sportiness of the old RX7 - it just seems to be a bit of a sports car compromise. Also, the dealers make you sign an agreement that you certify to check the oil every 2 tanks of fuel! - radiculous!

Check the oil every 2 fill ups !! Eeek thats outrageous and worse than an Alfa! One of my ferinds has an rv8 and loves it, he has been through a few sports jobs and really rates the rx8.

I found a price for the rear tyres on the 19 rims and it was 700 the pair! Eeek. However, the sellers ad said 19s but whether a intentional lie or otherwise, I realised later that they are 18s. There is a reciept with the docs for a rear tyre at £145 - so not overly worried at this stage. Servicing is a little more than a normal 3 series i think but not due for 14k miles.

im also getting about 24mpg around town, 2 less than the LCR, and thats with 342 bhp. I read somewhere 0-60 is sub 5 now, but manual says about 5.2 or there abouts.

Thanks for the wishes dudes and thankfully no shoestrings required!

Couldnt figure our how to add a picture - the "manage attachments" section says

When I got to my profile (cp) there was no function to upload anything....mmm

Chris drop me a mail when you are ready for an E46 and ill let you know if im looking at another change :)

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear about the 19" wheels.

What i got my dad to do was sell his 18" alloys on ebay - he got £520 + postage with virtually bald tyres when they were due. Also, the wheels were far from perfect in terms of condition.

He then got some replica 19" wheels which were wider at the back with eagle f1 tyres for £1050.

Therefore...he got upgraded wheels and new tyres all round for £530. And there is absolutely no difference in look and it drives great. Thats what i would suggest doing when your tyres need doing.

Starting to get a feel for the Leon now - found it feels a lot more responsive with the ESP off - and i couldnt resist....am getting it REVO'd next week (a friend from a vw dealership has a good deal on the gti's being done so can get me it done very reasonably). I am going to try the 5 hour demo first and if happy, get it done.

I would have thought an E46 is about 3 years off for me at the moment :( but we will see!

On that note - i dont know if its the styling i dont like or the car really....i think the fact it revs soo high (9k rev's?) ....i like a bit of low down torque like you get from a turbo/supercharger usually. I just feel its neither one thing or the other - i.e. the suicide doors at the back spoil the lines...and its not a practical car anyway?
