Rolling Road Setup?

Ello,

Any suggestions for where I can take my valver and say;

"Listen, my camber is out, I think my wheels need balancing and can you track it up for me?"

Any ideas in the Midlands would be best :)

no joy with kwik kip apparently they need some type of gauge to do it. I guess its like laser alignment kit.. however they did recommend Formula1 who also could not help but they then recommended KwikFit hehe

Where abouts you from, I had my geo alignment done at PSI Tuning in Newcastle , a garage recommended by the tuning fraternity.

I'm sure that any place should be able sort out the tracking for you. I'd be very surprised if Kwik Fit wouldn't have a laser tracking equipment. It should cost about £20. The same place should also be able to balance your tyres. And lastly, I'm not sure if you can set up the camber on these cars. Usually you can only do that on PROPER performance cars. And a 4 wheel alignment with the camber will cost you about £120.

As with many front wheel drive cars with a McPhearson strut arrangement at the front, the front camber is adjustable. As m0rk points out, there's a substantial range of adjustment available.

Rear camber is not officially adjustable, but can be tweaked - it's just a bit trickier, involving a load of trial and error and messing around with shims.

I'm so confused

So how would you go about adjusting the camber then? is it adjusted by the two bolts at the bottom of your front suspension struts?? A mechanic at my local garage was trying to persuade me that it cannot be adjusted, making me feel like an idiot because I was telling him it can be (because I remember just how much play there was when the two bolts were loose). He said it doesn't matter how you adjust it because the top mounts are sitting "loosely" in the strut turrets, meaning that when the car is sitting on the ground, the tyres as if self-level them selves with the ground (which I suppose does make sense, hence why I did believe him)

The mechanic at your local garage is talking utter horseshit.

And yes, you're correct about how to adjust it. Slacken the two bolts that connect the strut to the hub carrier, shift to desired position, tighten up and then swear a lot because something moved when you nipped the bolts back up.

it can definitely be adjusted as i did mine yesterday because my handling was utter crap and the inside tyres worn down in just over a week , once i moved the top bolt in on both sides the handling improved a substantial amount. I went round to a couple of local garages including ATS and kwik fit asking if they could adjust the camber angle but none of then said they could do it and recommended i took it to a rally garage.

yeah camber is the 2 bolts. when i slammed my valver it destroyed the inside of both my front tyres (But then i did slam it 80mm+)

I've pulled the camber out into the positive regions now to try and wear the tyre flatter and i also adjusted my track rods yesterday to try and get my wheels heading the same direction as Im looking.. all feels good at the moment but i definately need some laser wheel alignment.

I guess cambering the back is done through jiggery pokery, wheel spacing and some hub adjustment maybe..
