been to Premier SEAT in Leek for a quote and its roughly £350
and the guy there reckons there isnt a metal propellor water pump?
are these metal propellors non-genuine?

as i dont want to pay this, im gona do it myself! but ive been told that a special tool is needed for the tensioner?? is that right? anyone got a picture of the tool as i may be able to make 1 at work?

not yet had a look at the task in hand but is it a difficult job? and is there anything i need to look out for, before i start or anything that is complicated?

any help appreciated cheers

Speak to the guys at TTS, the sourced the parts out for a cambelt and waterpump change for PhilW i think.

I had mine done recently at inde-tech for £295 all in, parts and labour and VAT included. Including a metal impellor water pump ;)

Yeah the metal impeller water pump is non genuine!

If you havent done a cambelt before i wouldnt try and learn by doin urs urself! The belts are tight as fook to get on and you cant the lock anything up, i.e. cams or crank.

The special tools are a small 8mm headed bolt which you use to screw into the hydraulic tensioner which in turn takes the tension off the other tensioner and belt. Then you need a small pin which locks into the hydraulic tensioner so you can take the 8mm head bolt out so, the tension is taken off the other tensioner and belt so you can replace them both

cheers, yeh its on jenveys and in my corsa GSi, blew it up so rebuilding it at the mo, AGAIN!!!

yeh my cupra is completely standard so it probably was mine. i had in my head how i want mine to look then i saw yours go past and thought 'bugger someone has beat me to it!' lol

how did u manage to melt a piston?

i adjusted the actuator, it went quite well but thought that it may run a bit lean so adjusted it back!

it doesnt seem to hold boost as strong anymore and hits flats spots now and again! pain in the arse!

what horsepower should yours be running?

Well i was giving it abit and it started missfiring, so i put it on the dignostic machine and ithad cylinder 1 miss fire and an air mass meter fault!

wasnt a coil pack or spark plug it was the a hole down the side of the piston! rekon the air mass meter made it run lean and bang! big bill! lol.

so it scored the bore so i had it rebored and put bigger pistons in it, then completey rebuilt and changed everything else coz i thought while it was out just do everything so got the gt2x turbo tt injectors, tt airmass meter n lots more reckon its gonnna be around 300bhp! as cupramatts was on here

Andrew page also stock the Metal ones, I got mine though a mate (who gets discounted prices because he works at ATS) at andrew page. I got a metal water pump and cam belt kit with tensioners for £70 and then got it fitted at for £70. Which I thought wasn't such a bad price.

plastic ones fail, metal ones tend not to as they are stronger.
I had my timing belt and water pump replaced for 100 quid, id been quoted 350 by seat and decided to go to someone else. parts were only approx 50 quid so why pay double when you can change oil etc yourself later too.

well ive just paid £86 for a Dayco cam belt kit, its original parts as i can see where an Audi logo was before being machined off, and £45 for a genuine water pump (plastic propellor) the water pump on mine has lasted 6years from new so surely a new 1 will last as long? and thats good enough for me! fit it myself this weekend! :)

yeh banksy, i usually go fez on a sunday, i think i may of seen your cupra too! mine is completey standard at the mo!

ive done my cam belt over the weekend! it was a revlatively easy! the only thing i need other than the usual tools was a 50-60mm long m5 bolt and large m5 washer to compress the tensioner piston!

all in all its cost me £150 to source all genuine parts and do it myself, so happy times for me!
