I've just bought a 98 gti cupra 8v. I originally thought it was a 16v. garage had it advertised at 16v but the owner took it on part exchange and claimed to know nothing about the car. bought it and showed my cus a couple of days later and he said straight away it was a 8v! I was a bit gutted to say the least.

anyway, I love the car it is in good condition in and out, been tastefully modified with 17inch black alloys and has quad headlights. I got it at a good price and looked at 16v prices and they were going at about £800 more. Love the power on the car and realy impressed at the handling. lots of fun to drive.

only problem I have which I didnt notice when buying is this:
(a breather for the engine? not a mechanic!)

anyone know the part number at the dealers. am I better off going to seat or volkswagon for the part? can i get it anywere else? and how much does it cost?

and what can you do to give the 8v more bhp? without throwing a new engine in? not a boyracer but its always nice to know youve got that extra bit of power at your mercy!

i had an 8v, couldnt fault it. i think thats just an engine breather pipe, the best place is go to ebay and find an engine being broken for parts. shouldnt be more than a few quid.

Hey man welcome to the wonderful world of the Ibiza.

Sounds like the dealer wasn't too clued up at all!

Check the pipe for part numbers, bit of a long shot but like Dolly said they should be readily available.

welcome to the mk2 world... 8's are fun .. can worry a fair few things on the road as they're so light in comparison to a lot of todays lard-arsed cars ..

SWEET! got the part today. £13 from volkswagon. easy to fit and seems to have stopped a fuel smell I get every now and again!
