Yesterday and today, when setting off from standstill, then reversing into my parking place at work (all flat ground) my clutch really smells. Is is not as if there is more load on the car because on the level.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Had master cylinder changed a few thousand miles back.

Any thoughts would be good to throw to the dealer!

Read the thread right down to the bottom - it's funny even though it might not be very helpful

thats happened to me on my mk 2 golf gti 8 v the interior of the car was partly filled with smoke that stunk of rotten eggs as i tried to reverse up a semi-steep ramp at the esso petrol station on the A41 as it breakes off hampstead on finchley road.

ITS THE CLUTCH MATE.
IT SEEMS TO BE A WEAK POINT BUT LET THE DEALERS KNOW.
THE CAR IS STILL 100% DRIVABLE BY THE WAY.
SPEAK TO A CLUTCH SPECIALIST.

The reason I said dont drive it, is that we were advised to drive it to the dealers and that caused damage which then they said was "self inflicted" and wouldnt repair under warranty.

Has anyone with a petrol, especially a 1.6 had clutch problems? Am taking car in 1st thing and would like to go armed with info, incase they say there is nothing wrong with it.
Had been totally fine all weekend, motorway and A-roads, just the day after that the smell has started.
It does not feel to be slipping, though did get judder the other day, nothing special though!
Info greatly received, will keep you posted!
Andrew.

They think because its not slipping there could be a build up of dust that it is just chucking out now and again. Got to monitor for a week and get back in touch. Then will have to strip it down, so i'm hoping all returns to normal!
