polish recomendation

Hi,

I got a brand spanking new red Leon FR on Friday and I've just started getting a few detailing bits together for the first wash. So far I've bought:

1x Wash Mitt
1x Wheel brush
2x small microfibre cloths (tesco )
Applicator pads
Zymol Shampoo
Megs Deep Crystal Carnuba Wax (Step 3)

I'm new to all this and I think all that is left is a big MF towel to dry it and some polish?

I'm considering either AutoGlym Super Resin Polish or Megs Deep Crystal Polish. Any thoughts? Have also looked at Sonus SFX-3

Get a Sonus drying towel - they are really good. You can also never have too many cloths!

Another wash mitt is essential and use the two bucket method as mentioned in the sticky on this forum.

Okay I'll get the extra wash mit & cloths.

Autoglym SRP looks quite popular (and affordable) so I think I'll get some of that. How often should I give the car the full treatment?

What can I do on a weekly basis? just a rinse with a jet washer and dry? I don't have a driveway so it's gonna be difficult for me to do the full wash, polish, wax too often.

ok thanks. I've just been looking at the cleanyourcar.co.uk forum and I think I'll substitute the Autoglym SRP for the EGP as the paint is new.

You need to use the SRP to lay down a good base for the EGP to bond to.

Is SRP the best thing to use then? I got the impression it wasn't good for new paint.

Would I be better off with the Megs Deep Crystal System Polish since I have the Megs Wax?

I didn't want to put anything on that might cut the paint at all, or too many different products.

Step 1
Wash the car and rinse - Meguiars Gold

Step 2
Repeat step 1 - Wash the car again to get rid of any stubborn dirt

Step 3
Inspect the car for any intensive stains of dirt, insect debris etc and remove with an intensive tar remover

Step 4
Dry and then clay bar the car to get rid of any minor imperfections

Step 5
Quick mild wash and rinse again

Step 6
Dry

Step 7
Masking tape off all plastic sills, bumper strips etc

Step 8
Meguiars #83 Cleaner/Polish

Step 9
Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze

Step 10
Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze

Step 11
Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealant

Step 12
Victoria Concours Wax - wax on, wax off and buff

Step 13
Repeat step 9 for an extra deep shine

Done!

Megs Deep Crystal polish is not a polish - its a glaze. Bad product naming. Megs Step 3 wax is utterly crap, so don't waste your time.

I think Meguiars are good at the shampoo and Pro polishing items, but for wax, leave it to the likes of Victora Concours was etc

I'll give following a go to start with and replace the megs with something else when I have more pennies to spend!

1. rinse hose/jet washer
2. Wash using Zymol shampoo, two mitts, two buckets etc.
3. Polish with Autoglym SRP
4. Wax with Megs Step 3.
5. Put a bit of SRP on the wheels.

When you do all this, exactly how long does it take you???
Must look great afterwards, i may book some annual leave at work and get scrubbing

Zymol supplys an applicator pad, but everyone I've ever spoke to said to apply it by hand. Always gets me good results.

I don't wish to upset anyone but I was given a pot of this AS Carnauba Gold wax and tried it on my van, as I do all new products. I know what sort of reflection I get off the side of the van when looking in the mirrors, so for me this is an ideal way to see the finish and durability of finish.

Anyway the next day it rained, I only had 50 miles to go to a job, by the time I was there it was dry and bright, I noticed the reflection wasn't as it was, I put this down to dirt/rain, so out with the QD and mf cloth (that's all it needed) and it looked better, BUT on the drive home I noticed that the gloss had dropped out, the next day I sprayed water over the van, guess what no beading at all

I did a couple of more tests and to be honest my findings of this wax were even worse than the Megs step 3, total and utter crap, even told my AS rep and he laughed and said why do you think I gave it to you This wax is either now in a bin somewhere or still in the back of the van of the person I gave it to.

Sorry but save your money its not worth it, at least in my eyes

LOL, sorry, that was my findings, I also accept that others will have different views/feelings, you may well feel different to me.

Plus there's no point in us all agreeing as there would be no point in buying loads of products, plus life would be dead boring if we all liked the same stuff
