I've had no end of problems with my 53 plate Audi 2.0 TDI Sport (140). I bought in Jan and it soon started to run lumoy at idle and lost coolant.
Audi reolced the EGR valve, but when I got it back, it was no differanr.

I took it back, and they replaced the HEAD!!

Just picked it up on saturday, and it still wont idle smoothly. I cant tell if its still leaking yet because it took a couple weeks to go down.

I think its the same as the Seat lump, so hope that somone here can help where Audi maindealers obviously can't!!!

if the coolant still disappears, as a wild guess it's the exhaust recirc cooler, sprung a leak, keep us all posted

My money will be on the EGR cooler aswell. The older 1.9 engine had a few issues with these failing, but I've not heard of many on the 2.0ltr ones.

That's always presuming that the garage who did the head didn't make a mistake fitting it, and fixed one problem only to leave you with a similar problem.

All,

Is the EGR Cooler the same as the EGR valve??

The first thing that Audi replaced was the EGR Valve (I think they said valve).

I got the car back after this and it was just the same.

They then put a new head on it and I think it is slightly better, but they had it for 3 weks and I dont remember exactly how it was previous.

This morning it wasnt as bad as yesterday; maybe its 'running in'? Or would the temp/humidity affect somthing?

Thanks everyone for your help.

No, different components. See picture.

Number 1 is the EGR Valve, and number 9 (blue dot) is the EGR cooler.

This pic is showing the exhaust gas circulation route, and the coolant connections can be seen on the EGR cooler (unconnected in this pic).

Part number is O3G 131 512 J
