BMC Tight fitt

Now I've done searches and nothing seems to indicate this.
So when fitting my BMC last night i had 2 issue,
1. where to mount it
2. its that much of a tight fit the cold air feed barely fits in and requires an emediate ture which cant be good for air flow?

So was wondering how other owners had delt with these issues if they had come across them and if anyone had any pictures of their work.

I had this problem which turned out that i was sold the wrong sized BMC. The one listed for my car was too long. IIRC the Audi S3 filter is the one to go for but i'm sure someone will give you a definate answer.
The best picture i have of my BMC:

i have to say, i cant understand the point in having a split r and blanking off the recirc...surely it completely defeats the purpose of that particular valve???

additionally, why does anyone run a non-recirc valve on their lc/lcr, the turbo is designed to work with a recirc valve and surely will behave very oddly without one?

the reasoning behind the splt R woking in BOV mode is that it is not releasing enough air for the engine/ turbo to detect it as a problem, hense the ability for it to do that in recirc mode, the amount being blown off does not change if the recirc is blocked off. How ever as it is only releasing a small amount not all the back pressure of the turbo is being release therefore put more wear and tear on the turbo and possilbly making it more prone to stall.

yes i understand all of that, my point is....since the split r releases the same amount of gas irrespective of whether the recirc is blanked off or not, where is the benefit of blanking it off? all you are doing is potentially damaging your turbo!

BMC on my 180.

I had to make this small bracket from aluminium to support some of the weight, even though the filter is'nt heavy-just in case!

Oh no skahigh i am with you on this one i really dont see the reasoning behind doing it especially as the split R wasn't designed for this you might as well not have a DV at all.
But all to their own.

The reason i have my valve like it is (fully atmospheric) is basically i thought i'd try it as i already had the valve to see if it worked and it does! The valve is alot louder than in semi recirc mode as well. Also the HKS SSQV valve works as well. As for it damaging the Turbo, it will only add wear if it's stalling and it doesn't feel like it is. But i will probably be chaning it back to semi recirc just to avoid have to type all this again. ;)

Here is a piccy of the BMC fitted in my dirty engine bay, all the brackets came with the kit. the cold air feed connects at the same point as the original air filter - the temp gauge went a bit haywire for a day then settled down.

I had the same problem when I had one on my car - I had to send it back and get an Audi S3 one - its the same size filter but it doesn't have the extra flange on the end - its just a hole you put the MAF into -

Richy you may be interested to take a look at this publication from forge, they are now basically say that yes you can mount the split r in the wat you have it all though it is at you r own risk (so may it will work)

I saw it a minute ago. Mine is still mounted differently to that. I left the atmos spout where it was and blanked the recirc pipe. They reccomend moving the atmos spout to where the recirc pipe was and blanking the atmos vent, if my description makes any sense?

Yeah good point they have basically switched it to an actual full BOv by doing that haven't they
were as you are still limiting the amount it can release.
