i have got a problem with my paintwork. A little while ago, i got some bird poo on the side of my car at work. We have a big problem with seagulls there and it is a constant pain.
i am constanly cleaning it off, as you all may well know, if left on for any amount of time, will mark your paint work.

However, in this instance though, i think i have had an encounter with a seagull that had eaten battery acid for dinner.

the poo that done this was only left on for about 12 hours, but as you can see from the photos , it has badly shagged my paintwork.

i think it has just bubbled the laquer, but i aint sure. Just wondering at what i would be looking at to get it fixed. Know jack all about spraying etc. Is it possible to redo just the laquer or am i looking at a total respay of the panel?

any ones help, advice and recommendations all greatfully accepted!

Aye that has definately bubbled your laquer....

The choices are..

Get this patch buffer down by someone with very good rotary buffer skills then give this area lots and lots of coats of a very good wax

I don't think this could be buffed down the re laquered

Bite the bullet and get it resprayed

You could try emailing www.polishedbliss.co.uk and ask them, they are pretty much the best car detailers in Britian and will be able to help you more.

Also maybe invest in a pellet gun and go on a seagull killin spree[:@]

it really depnds on the damage, a good detailer may be able to polish that out of the clear coat. however if the clearcoat has been destroyed you will probably be looking at a respray of the panel (maybe £100 as a guess?).

I don't think that will polish out with a rotary. If you can catch it with your finger nail it is too deep. You may reduce it with some wet sanding and then polish with a rotary. Depends how far you want to go/ can afford. Get someone to try the above if it works pay them £100 if it dosn't nothing lost and you will need a respray.

the problem is i am going to be selling the car in the very near future, either be it by part ex or by by private sale. I have got to get it sorted as i know the cost it will be to sort it out will be a lot cheaper than the amount of money people will want off the car .
I have a accident repair place that is behind my work and they do spraying.
looks like i will have to give them a look tomorrow.
It feels really rough when you run your hand over it and can easily catch it with your finger nail.

apparently it is illegal to shot seagulls,so i have been told by an rspb git whoo works a few units down from me. Suggest he comes and sorts my freakin car out then. I know for a fact that each morning when i go into work, if there is a seagull sitting on the road, i try and run it over. one day i will get on........

an update for you.

Went to 2 bodyshops today to see what they would want for repairing the poop stain.

1st one, a ford (cough cough) repair shop who will do any sort of car.
Approx £400

2nd one which is behind where i work said it would be 250 plus vat. But he did say he would sort out where someone had keyed my car on the rear driverside door aswell.

what do you reckon then?

bit more that i was hoping but as i aint got a clue of what it costs as i have never used a bodyshop before, does that sound about right?

kill all seagulls!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that for a full respray of the panel or just rub down and re-laquer??

If it is a full respray of the panel and sorting out the other damege, that is not too bad a price, I would try and get it for £250 inc VAT.

Go around to some other places as well and see what they say. Also make sure you know exactly what work they will be doing and required.

Why not get a pro detailer out to see what they can do? Will be cheaper than both of those quotes!

the quote wasn't for a full panel respray, just sand and blend the affected areas.

i might have to try the pro detailer line. Anybody recommend any in the nar'folk (norfolk :)) area?

pm Gary, Refined Reflections, he is local to you and will give you an honest opinion as to whether or not it can be saved without paint (Gary has a background in owning bodyshops, so knows his stuff there too).

i contacted gary at refined reflections, and he agreed that it was to bad even for a amn of his skills to blend out . so unfortunately , it was off to the body shop.
i dropped her in this morning first thing, and i am due to pick her up tomorrow afternoon.

i am getting threar quarter sprayed, and he is also gonna sort out a lovely key mark that runs along both driver side doors for me aswell. (thank you to what ever w*ank*r done that) and also pop a couple of little dents out in one door aswell.

all in £300

It is weird really, because the passenger side of my car is immaculate, but the drivers side looks like it has gone 6 rounds with king kong! Why is that ?
surely i cant be that unlucky !

anyway, will post some after pics up when i get it tomorrow :D

Not a bad price, assuming they do a good job. Shame it's come to this, but best to get it sorted properly

hopefully it will be good . had a look at an r32 they had just part resprayed in the workshop. looked pretty impressive!!

so fingers crossed.....

seems a shame to have to get this done ,only to be parting with it very shortly, but what it cost me now will be a lot cheaper than when selling and some one goes ' gonna have to knock at least 600 quid of the price cause of that paintwork'

cant wait till tomorrow now.
