Water leak in boot and rear passenger footwell.

Got a water leak problem. Decided to empty the boot the other day and the carpet was soaked. So lifted the carpet and there was a little puddle of standing water in the spare tyre.
Also the carpet behind the drivers seat (where the rear passengers put their feet) was soaked.
Not sure if the 2 are connected but have had this happen before in the past. The boot i thought was something leaking (lots of crap in there) and the floor i thought maybe i had left a bottle not closed properly.
But this time there was no chance of either! It was raining like hell on sunday and i did drive down the motorway (in case it helps anyone with ideas of whats wrong?)

Theres is no leak from the rear windows either.
And its a 2l 8v C.S. Gti
Any ideas guys?

I recently changed the rear lights on my car. They didnt seal properly because a piece of bark or something, so it leaked into the spare wheel hole. (mines stripped out so no wet carpet here!)

Maybe its your lights? climb in the boot when its raining and have a look.

Yeh its definitely not the washer. Im going to check the lights out tomorrow.
Any ideas on the water in the passenger footwell?

No idea about the passenger footwell. Id go sit in it when its raining and see if you can see it creeping in anywhere. Maybe one of your friends spilt a drink?
