Was driving around...pulled out onto a mini roundabout and the thing just died...started to judder...revs dropped below 1000 and if i put my foot down on the accelerator nothing happened :(

I managed to 'bunny hop' off the roundabout and onto the pavenemnt...people must of thought i cant drive lol

Called out the RAC and waited 2 hours for them to arrive and tell me it was an electrical fault and nothing could be done...which was what i told them over the fone!!! The guy then rings up for a low loader and tells me it will arrive in 40 mins.... 2 hours later it arrives! [:@]
Although the low loader man was pretty helpful.

Anyway getting back to the lil beeza...the EPC light has come on...does this mean that a coil pack could have gone?

If so is it an expensive job and can i fit the coil pack myself? Im hoping Euro Car Parts will stock them!!

Any advice?

Cheers
Michal

what engine, I assume it's a petrol

could be the dreaded cam timing chain if it's a 1.2 on 50k miles or more

coil packs are well easy to replace mate

fingers x'd it's just a coil pack

is it out of warrenty then ?

Yep its out of warrenty

I hope its only the coil pack too although i doubt it...i think thers a fault with the accelerator pedal as when you turn the car on, and stamp down on the accelerator nothing happens...even if the coil pack had gone and it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders i would have thought there would be a slight response :(

Anyone with VAG-COM live around Bromley? lol

I have had my LCR remaped back in Feb. The moment the new map went into the ECU the car rolled out and 2 seconds later the car started to judder and would get an eggy smell coming from the exhaust. This is the unburnt fuel gathering into the CAT. The warning light flashed for few seconds and went off.

Do you have these symptoms?

Just to add, Today i have gone through my second coil on the 3rd piston and its all down to buying "unofficial" coil pack. The VAG specialist i went to supplied me with a Japanese version of a VAG coil and it lasted barely 3 months.

The coil is replaced now and the car is running superb. I heard this is very common on 1.8 20v Turbo engines.

My advice.....Buy better performance aftermarket coil pack.

Well i noticed the car was juddering and was progressing to judder more and more as the car was driving on.

Thankfully my mate runs a garage which has VAG diagnostics machine, took a few minutes and it came clear it was the ignition coil.

I didn't want to wait and have it ordered. So a quick walk down to my nearest GSF and i bought a genuine part for £28 including VAT. If you shop around you can probably find it cheaper...but parts might not be genuine. Volkswagen and Audi charge £35 for a coil. Try https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/

They do 2 versions though mate, a japanese version and a genuine SEAT version. Nothing wrong with the japanese one, it cost under £20 but a high performance car like mine needs a genuine SEAT part.

Hope this helps

Good luck.

 cheers matey!

Now i have to find a kind chap with vag-com lol

I didn't have much time to shop around but just been looking on the E-bay and you can buy the whole pack (x4) for £30. They say its genuine too.

Bromley is too far away from slough otherwise my mate would be happy to diagnose your problem i think.

Don't go to main dealer, try and sweet talk a garage with VAG-COM system.

Take a few cans of beers lol

Good Luck, Let me know what the problem is if you find out.

Quick update, thanks to DIFT i was able to get my car Vag Com'd and found a few faults.

One of them was:

17584 P1176 O2 Correction Behind Catalyst,B1 Limit Attained

17584 - Bank1: O2S (Lambda) Correction Behind Catalyst: Control Limit Reached

So i thought there may be a fault with the Lambda Sensor....bought a new one and fitted it today. Car seems normal...was hoping the engine light would go out but it didnt :(

Here are some photos of the old sensor...it was coated with a layer of carbon which i wiped off and the bottom of it has a thick layer of white stuff which i guess could be silicone from Tesco fuel...my question is, is that white layer enough to break the sensor?

Have you changed all the faults and VAG Com'd the ECU again? Might have other faults the VAG com can't pick up. If however the car runs fine and you feel its ok now, try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so then plug it back in. The computer resets itself.

The fault Lambda Sensor is common on Ibiza's. If all else fails then you will need to go to SEAT.

How long has you warranty been expired for bud?

did u clear the fualt code? If not then the light probably wont go out.

I think DIFT tried but he couldnt get the faults to clear.

I think i might have to ask Dift for another favoud as vag com'd the car for me.

I did disconnect the battery and reset the ECU and Throtle Bodies...the car drives but with the EPC and engine light fully lit up.

The cars a 52 plate so its been out of warrenty for a while...although i think i may still be covered for the coil packs as its not 5 years old yet

The car feels and sounds fine so i really dont have a clue what to do now lol

Might go to SEAT and try and get a new set of coil packs on warrenty and see what they say.

Cheers
