My Altea is out of its warranty in September, and have looked into getting extended cover. Emailed Seat UK and they have said that they do extended cover through the main dealers. Anyone got any experience of these, cost, cover etc. Altea Sport TDI's have a lot of gadgets to go wrong, I have had the auto dimming rear view mirror go on mine under warranty, but was told that it would have been close to £250 if I was paying! Dont want to fork out for stuff like that so thought extended cover would be worth it.

I'm like the public sector was and the government is, I don't pay for warranties on the basis that in total the seller makes a profit and if you got resources then it's cheaper not to. I did hand over 500 pounds to Citreon once and they gave you free breakdown cover for five years. If you didn't claim after five years or so you got your money back. Now that was a good deal, but going after the company that managed this after five years to cough up took some hassle. First I'd left it too late, we don't pay up after six months... wasn't it up to them to pay me, not chase them up. I got me money, which wasn't a bad extended warranty since it was free less interest.

That reminds me better check the breakdown cover, that I do, do.

I was just about to create a post asking the exact thing, you beat me to it Penfold!

I've had a few bits replaced recently, main thing being the aircon compressor, would hate to think what that would have cost me if I had to pay for it!

Have you bought your warranty yet? How comprehensive is the SEAT one?

I always worry that they "wear and tear" their way out of paying for things with these warranties... :(

My car is now just out of it's manufacturer's 2 year warranty, and I've got no dealer one for the 3rd year as I bought it from a car supermarket, so I checked out Warranty Direct and got the following quotes (not exceeding 30000 miles p.a. was just about the only criteria I had to specify)

Gold policy: 251.73
DriveLine policy: 193.71

Prices above are for a network garage, while a franchised dealers pushes the prices up to 302.07 and 232.46 respectively.

Interested to hear if anyone has qot cheaper quotes from other sources?

My Altea's a 2.0 TDI DSG.

Hi dlm2310

As charles_altea says- the current Altea warranty (prob all Seat's??) is made up of a 2 year manufacturer's warranty with the 3rd year being covered by the Dealer who sold it.

This is the way it is now but I'm not sure if this is a new thing or not

Cheers, must have changed.

After posting my original post I called the dealer I purchased to confirm and they said 3 year manufacturers.

It is just over 2 years old and is booked into another dealer so I was getting a bit concerned as I didn't want to take it to the original dealer as I think they are poor.
