Ever considered masking off, preping and spraying them while on the car? Is that not something you could do?

The strips are held on with sticky tape with locating pins they just pull off not sure if you can use them again or not, the replacement ones are not that expendsive approx £10 and they come primed, masking and spraying is the way i am going, you can get a primer/filler that is easy to use, spray it on sand untill smooth paint.... well more or less:D

agreed, i did this to my mk-iv golf, removed the strips and painted but couldnt ever get them back on as nice as before, so best thing to do it buy a new set primmed up and spray them yourself, its not hard at all honestly i found spraying easy. i shall be doing this to my leon over the summer.
is that right? £10 approx for primmed door moulding strips? at VW it was £22 front and £20 rear for non primmed black stips!

the doors strips are not a tenner at all. they are infact nearer £20.
got one yesterday from seat in watford they cost me £19.23 inc vodka & tonic(vat)..and that is for the black plastic only not the primmed ones they are slightly dearer, just buy a can of primer and spray em ya self. :)

I found this out and thats each for the strips.

So youd be looking at about 160 for all new black bits :-o

removed damaged one yesterday..easy as.
any reminance of tape left on car removed very easy.
to be honest i think you could easily remove from car and spray up and replace without buying new ones.
just need to find some form of double sided tape/foam to reattach to your car.
i'm gonna give it a go..remove all from car and spray up without being on the car.
hopefully better results.
keep you informed :)

UPDATE

2/6/07
all door bumper strips removed, primed and colour coded to car.
reused old ones...just removed old foam backing with stanley blade...(carefully)..
purchased some double sided foam and stuck em on..easy as that.. locating pins on the back help to ensure you are putting them back in the same place...
2 cans of primer (can a side)
2 cans of colur coded paint for the stealers...£23 inc vat but it does come with cans of clear laquer
and patience.
very effective car mod
