Hey all,

I've noticed that my LC is starting to sound like it's got what sounds like a blowing exhaust.

I had a breif listen this morning and it sounds like it's coming from near the underside of the engine, although I havent been able to get underneith it properly to have a good look. It sounds pretty 'throaty' when it's on choak, but once it warms up, it doesn't sound soo bad.

Does this sound like the exhaust to you? Or maybe something else? I'm not much of a mechanic so I'm wondering if you guys might be able to point me in the right directions of things to check out.

Thanks in advance folks.

Chris :)

correct me if im wrong but the noise is your secondary air pump running,it puts warm air into your cat when you start up from cold normally stays on for about a minute

if your exhaust is blowing i imagine you will notice it getting alot worse pretty soon, the downpipe on my old escort started blowing once and I ended up driving 50 miles home from work at midnight down the dual carriageway sounding like a spitfire!!! :)

You will hear the Secondary Air Pump a lot more if your exhaust is blowing at the front.

Start the car up, open the bonnet and pop your hand down the back of the engine, being extremely careful not to touch anything as it is VERY HOT back there. See if you can feel exhaust leaking against your hand. Likely culprit areas: Downpipe to turbo flange, downpipe to turbo gasket, exhaust manifold to turbo gasket.

Cheeky tip, if its at the end of the exhaust by the backbox hold your hand over the end of the exhaust when the engines cold and listen for blowing. And as DPJ says, if its nearer the engine stick your head under the bonnet to listen for blowing.

mine has exactly the same issue

when looked at by Storm developments, the whole exhaust system is rotten and will need replacing as it is deterioating rapidly

hence i am on the BF group buy
