Because the cars are built for general public, if you want something fast with loads of power, and can afford it, then you buy it, ie Evo, which comes with a FMIC, and BT.

The MPG would give them a better chance of selling because if the cost is the same of two cars, yet one does 30mpg and the other 50mpg, the general part of society will go for the higher mpg.

Personally, i dont even look at it when looking at cars, as i want performance and looks over everything else!

And btw you have paid about £10 for a coloured magnet!

They don't just build cars for the likes of us, they have to fit a huge and varied global market so 99.9% of cars designed will be a compromise. Add to this that they have to build it to a price that allows them to make a profit.

As Forbez said if a manufacturer could easily and cheaply increase the fuel consumption they would do. It would seriously increase the appeal of the car against their rivals.

true, but its not like they even give it as an optional extra, for example the cupra R should be aimed at those who want the car but are going for performance, and they give it a whopping 180bhp, no bigger intercooler, not even a k03s.
Cruise control would have given the 99.9% an even better fuel economy therefore increasing the sales.

Why? Its a basic sports hatch.

Not built for cruising or long trips.

You wont find many dealers offering optional extra's of bigger turbo's, injectors, Downpipes, etc as it probably wouldn't be worth it for the extra cost to them, compared with what they will be able to make back from selling the uprated versions!

Remember Seat Sport suspension was an optional extra, how many people bought it?

I would have thought they would want the marketing of an affordable hot hatch that still gives good fuel economy, k03s isnt really a bt, just has a bit more potential, i see your point about the extra cost for d/p and cat etc, but they prob could have researched the intercoolers as i said mine is off a standard laguna, imo it doesnt need to be the cost of an evo for.
The new polo gti comes with a k03s, but its only mapped at 150bhp:confused:
The name of the game is getting more for your money, not less the for same

Ahh but its catering for the masses, and not for 10% who want a fast car.

You do see old biddy's in Polo Gti's, but i cant recall ever having a conversation with one, about slamming it, and fitting a full Zorst, filter, and GTRS.

You're missing the point. When a car is designed it has to appeal to the largest market possible. Not everyone wants the maximum power available from the engine because it pushed up insurance premium, increases wear and tear and might just be more than they feel they can handle.
But also designers are constantly watching the pennies to ensure profitability. You might think a different turbo or intercooler is only a few pounds to them, but when you add up all the tweaks they could do, it would run into hundreds.

They also have to be careful not to undermine other models in their range, or in these days or multi brand ownership, other ranges.

but the amount of cupra R's produced would be less than 10% of cupras made, i dont know what the price gap was but the R was more for virtually bugger all, and they hadnt done enough to make me buy an R because there was less to mod.
Even the Polo gti has a cup version and they wont even sell it over here, but its the same gains as an R really lol
Anyway, back to my original point (i think lol) cruise control was the most effective form of fuel economy ive had done, and ive easily made the money back on it since having it fitted.

Yes, if you do a lot of mileage esp motorways then its a great mod. Plus it means you dont have to keep your foot on the accelerator, i get cramp in my knee sometimes.
I dont always stick to 70 but because whatever speed you set it to it sticks at, it means it doesnt fluctuate your speed like normal driving does which is where a lot of petrol waste occurs.

Cruise control doesnt accelerate up to speed for you, you hit 70mph then wack the cruise control on and it stays at that speed til u hit the throttle or the brakes

If you are going at 70 and you click it on, it sticks at 70, if you touch the brake or clutch it de-activates unless you press resume and it will speed back up to 70 or set it again in which case it then sticks at what ever speed you are currently doing.
Can be hilarious on private roads setting it at 120 then deactivating it down to about 60 then hitting the resume button. But that doesnt save your petrol much lol
Definately saves petrol, doesnt use more forbez
