The results of the latest JD Power Survey are on the What Car site now and as usual they make depressing reading for Ibiza owners.

http://www.whatcar.com/news-special-report.aspx?NA=225557&EL=3196975

85th out of 113 cars is not very good and to quote "The Ibiza's lowly position is sealed by its poor quality. No other car had as many problems with its suspension or its bodywork, and the switchgear was another weak point. "

It's time to change brands – as soon as I can find another car within my price range which I like.

lol dont let a little survey put you off a car. These surveys are often off key and dont represent a full survey.

Look at the results of the fabia and polo for example.

It's not surprising really - the design's 5 years old now - hopefully the mk5 will bring the quality and refinement up with the latest cars being released now

Yes, we all know those results are crazy. For example, with the same engines the Fabia scores 'Very Good' for performance, whereas the Ibiza scores 'Average'.

The only trouble is after a few years of these surveys the Fabia is gaining a reputation as one of the best and most reliable cars on sale, whereas the Ibiza is becoming regarded as a bit of a dog. That has an impact on desirabliity and residual values.

Anyway my car runs out of warranty on June 3rd and it is booked in for a service next Wednesday. I have asked them to check over all the suspension bushes as the handling feels a lot sloppier than when it is new. Hopefully, if there are any problems they can be sorted under warranty before the MOT is due.

Whether I keep the car or not depends on the outcome of that service.

Still can't find another car which I would rather have though, which is a problem.

if you want to know how a car performs look at the owners forum

if the car has no owners forum forget it

hace you people noticed, just read a few others above and below the ibiza AND they all say bad things ! hardly a good thing in site! the car cant be that bad to have won car of the ****in year ! think about it that way.

as for re sale values dont buy from a dealer buy private and get it cheap and treat it well then sell it private again and you wont lose too much!

The position in the JD Power survey is "interesting".

In my case (over 4 years ownership) I would tend to agree with it's position IE. new engine, power steering pump, alternator, wiper motor, aircon problems. alarm problems etc. etc. (I can't even remember all the faults). All luckily done under warranty. BUT...when the car is running well, it's a decent motor (hence why I've hung onto it).

Now mine is I suspect (hope!?) an isolated case (in the sense of how many Ibiza's have been sold).

So... lets look at this from another angle. Try looking at Warranty Directs WEB site, they compile all the statistics for the cars that they deal with (and this must run to MANY thousands each year, if not tens of thousands) and then set up a league table (based on number of faults, cost to repair etc.). Anyone can view this information. My point here? The Ibiza actually comes out pretty well actually. Hence why an extended warranty through them (for an Ibiza) is pretty reasonable. Now try looking at some other cars on this table (EG. pretty much any Alfa).

As I said ... "interesting".

Its the people who actually take part in the surveys that matter.

For example if you won an Audi A3 and something goes wrong your more likely to make some noise about it as it doesnt meet your expeectations for the price it costs. However with say a skoda your expectations arent as high due to the price and therefore you are less likely to complain about it.

Then there is the demographic of the people who actually own the vehicle. Who is more likely to take part in the survey, teens or middle aged people? Then what is the demographic of the majority of ibiza drivers to contend with also!

These surveys are always to be taken with a pinch of salt, how do you rate a 1.2 ibiza against a 1.8 cupra??

They haven't driven them all, so these surveys are based on what?

Ive owned 50 + cars over the past 15 years and my cupra is really well put together. My AUDI coupe was the best for build quality, my Clio 172 great for going round bends at silly speeds:wtf: and my Mitzi Starion great at the traffic lights, but for an all rounder, the cupra is great..

Never mind, at least my girlfriends Ka came last, but she has the top of the range Streetka, and I have to say its great..:funk: So again, you cant use the same reports to cover all models, as my dads basic Ka is pants..:ban:

I'm impressed with my car upto now. Ok a few teething problems (headlamp washers & door handles sticking) but the overall build quality is impressive. Considering the roads over here, there ain't one rattle in my cabin, it still looks new too, the seats are supportive and comfortable. A mate has a Golf GTi and she actually prefers my seats...

I am disappointed about the recent survey but after all it's what I think of the car, if there are any problems I know they'll get sorted. Upto now, nothing has gone wrong *touch wood*

Meh.

It was supermini of the year a couple of years ago - what's changed?

Haven't had any suspension issues on my PD130 - although paint IS a weakspot.

Christ I used to drive a Punto and it was built like lego!

they ain't so great! if you can get a decent amount of speed, you're more likely to hit a pot hole or something and end up in a hedge or a ditch on the other side of the road. not joking, the roads are shocking over here! i always laugh when i read car mags and the cars are tested on smooth roads in europe or something, then they always comment "just wait until we get it to the uk on the rough road surfaces, it'll really show how well this car will handle" or something like that...try road testing a car on the IOM or infact living on the IOM, it'll really tell ya how well a cars built then! lol

the suspension on any car is truly tested over here and pushed to the limits :censored:

So I take it you wouldnt recommend people relocating to the IOM then for its road laws lol.
