Only thing that may 'appear' worse is that the performance won't be there at low revs (i.e. < 2500rpm) in the same way it is in the diesel.

But the diesel would have to change up earlier whereas the petrol can continue up at higher revs with a longer power band.

I was doing some test drives in my dad's 140PS volvo v50 and found I prefer the revvy petrols - diesels are definately more relaxing to drive with their low down power and no need to change down a gear at a corner.

Overtaking I found to be the biggest difference: in the petrol power band is 3000-6000rpm whereas in the diesel it's more like 1800-4000rpm. This meant I had to forget my shift down a cog mentality when overtaking in the diesel otherwise it quickly ran outta puff and would require an upshift pretty soon...

I guess I am more of a petrolhead. They feel much racier. Although when I was playing with the CTR I found that a tad too far having to keep the revs between 5000 and 8000rpm!

Hang on, you've put a deposit on a car you've never seen when you've never even driven one?

The feeling of the car will be very different, in terms of power delivery.

The TDi feels like it has endless torque from low revs and will feel faster at that point. But the LCR will keep on revving and keep increasing in acceleration way past the point the TDi has run out of revs :)
