difference between fr & cupra (petrol)

Hello all, I am new to this site.

Considering getting a used fr petrol (about 04)...just want to know what the mean difference is between the fr and cupra (mechanical wise)?

Im am thinking to chip it straight away to gain about 190bhp. Can I just do this with revo & not bother with other mods like exhaust, new cams, mess around with ignition, fuel, etc?

around £600 is fine.

I want to tune it so that I can get a wallop of power around 3k rpm. Also, what those switchable setting so that when i want to drive normally can be fuel efficient and switch setting (mapping on ecu) when wish to

thanks...any advice would be nice

Brakes/wheels/suspension stiffness - the Cupra also has a big front mount intercooler

However, the FR will be cheaper to buy/insure/maintain - and will remap to more than a std cupra

cupra has 4 pot 312mm brakes , fr has 288mm, front mounted intercooler on cupra not fr, cupra has esp only an option on fr's but engine harware is the same and fully tunned will give the same power, revo map is switchable and adjustable. it will be cheaper to get o4 plate fr 20vt and start from there

thanks for your prompt replies,

so, which tuning option / tuning company to go for? like i said, want a wallop of power.

How does a chip alter the max power? run on more boost? But, I would a chip be reliable? would it not strain engine parts because i've not upgraded parts. THanks

no point in chips just remaps. engine internals are fine for tuning on the standard turbo. you can get lots of torque low down mines rather like that ill post some vids to show what its like running 240bhp and 275ftlb torque

sorry, i mean remap not chip....how does it achieve the increase in power? more boost?whats the most i can up to before requiring to make changes to other mechanically things.

basically more boost yet and adjustments to timing. a normal remap with nothing else will see about 205bhp. and the most the turbo will make is 240 roughly but you need exhaust intercooler induction all doing

what colour for car, red, black or grey..?

did you fit the boost gauge yourself? where did you buy it from?

gazjones

Guest
yep fitted it myself. was it a white one you have seen? got new one from awesome gti in manchester.
all the colours have there good points i like red obviously.

im from manchester....hehehel....do you have a dumpvalve fitted? the ppsshhh sounds really nice...where can i get one from?

the pitsch sound was when i put an open cone filter on. i didnt like it at all. its got an uprated dv, metal version of the crap plastic one fitted as standard.

helen123

Guest
where can i get a metal version to replace the plastic one...Im guessing as standard, the car does not make the pitshh sound

gazjones

Guest
no pitsh sound, forge sell the metal replacement valves and they have come up with one that allows a bit or boost to blow off and make bit of a pitsh sound
but the ecu depends on recirculating the boost to keep everything running happily
