I assume he's got a tad confused.

Basically, fella... SEAT wanted to make the "Cupra" badge the be-all and end-all of SEAT performance.... sooo... they labelled their 2nd in line models FR, towards the end of Mk1 production, in order to save their precious Cupra badge for their flag-ship models.

In Mk2 it became true that the No.1 car in SEAT Leon's range was the Cupra... 2nd was the FR... or rather, is.

So yeh.. best of the best Leon Mk2 is now known to all as the Leon Cupra.
"R" no longer exists in SEATs camp.

I was at my local SEAT dealer yesterday and the only Mk2 Cupra they had was sitting there ready for PDI. The sales guy was telling me that they can't get them fast enough but then he would wouldn't he?

Incidently I walked over to the Honda dealer and took a spin in the new Civic Type R GT and they told me they are only getting 18 this year!?!?

Yeh, they would say that. You're right. They'd love to generate a little "Can't make 'em fast enough!!" hype.

What did ya think of the CTR GT?

What did ya think of the CTR GT?

I know the looks divide opinion and I don't like it in general but the 3 door looks really good in Type R guise. The Honda dealer was great and let me take it out for 30 mins on my own.

IMO the interior of the CTR kills my LCR but then the LCR is getting on a bit. It's really modern and the seats are fantastic. This one being a GT had all the toys on like dual zone A/C, cruise control, iPod connector etc.

Straight away it feels slower than the LCR but gets away off the mark a little quicker. Unlike the old CTR I drove it's got more power across the range but you still have to spank it to the red line to get the best but the sound it makes is just INCREDIBLE!! You'd just rev it all day long for that soundtrack.

I guess in practice they LCR and the CTR are about as quick but it always seems that you're making a real effort in the CTR whereas all that low down power in the LCR makes it look easy. I've gotta say that the CTR felt a lot tighter and stuck to roundabouts in way that would had me waiting for the opposite lock in the LCR though.

I walked away from the dealer and was pleased to be back in my LCR knowing that I'm better off in my £12k LCR rather than the £20k Honda. Having said that I'd have one in the blink of an eye, just not in place of my LCR.
