stretched tyres on deep dish rims?

ive seen some nice cars with fat rims on the back and streched tyres??? like in Performance VW they have a Polo with a S3 engine, a Venom motorsports show car and the tyres on that are jus .

i know this sounds newbie but how do they do that? do they jus get say 195 tyres and just stretch them out? wtf, wont the tyre just fold back? sorry but it doesnt make any sense to me lol.

you just put a tyre on thats too narrow for the wheel, how much is out for experimenting, tell us what size wheel you want and i can recommed a tyre to suit it.
Obviously if its too narrow it can pop off - you wouldnt want to race with them...

Once you get the smaller width tyres, You need to over inflate them so that they don't cave in in the middle. Problem being that if you are driving fast round a corner, in stretched, overinflated tyres, chances are they might pop off. Which is never good mid corner. This is the reason why not every garage will fit them for you.

Check combe pictures in trackday section. Red ibiza on 16x8's with 195/45/16 tyres "stretched" on doing fine.

I think it only really is that bad when youv got massive stretch like 195/40 on a 9" or bigger but to be honest, iv noticed no difference going from standard 6x16s to 8x16s on the same tyres.

Massive negative camber on stretched in the wet with cheap tyres is where you'll fall down. Absoloutly no grip at all i find. Car just wants to understeer.

stretching can be done on 7j rims and up

the most popular ones are
Wheel Size - Stretched Tyre
7j - 165/50
8j - 175/50 or 195/45

it's all a compromise between tyre tread width and sidewall height

Why oh why do people do this, apart from being dangerous and illegal to put an undersized tyre on a rim, remember if you have to make an insurance claim they will not pay out.
Can’t understand why anyone would put their life and others at risk because it looks cool.

Well chances are that a set of stretched 16" Toyo tyres is going to have more grip they my mums clio with no-brand 13" skinny ass tyres. And you have also answered your own question. people do it because it does look cool. Of course you can't go too mad where your tyres are about to slip off, but a bit of a stretch isn't the end of the world. I can think of worse and more dangerous modifications then this.

But that's just my opinion of course

my car is tail happy so makes no difference on stretched tyres - wel that i've noticed and why do people do a lot of things to their cars? its a million dollar question - its the same as why do i make my car so low that yesterday i had to make my bro get out so i didnt scrape as much and i stil scrape down a drive

Probably because you have stripped out the rear end of your car, thus making it lighter and more tail happy.

im sure this is because the ibiza and polo's are 30mm shorter at the rear track than the front - not sure why - sure makes it a bit more of a drivers car anyway lol - not that i get the chance to drive it properly - i dont give it any beans before its at 90 degrees and it only gets to 84 by the time i get to and from work

You dont need to let it get to 90, go with 70 to be safe but im sure i read 50 is sufficient. I usually go with 50 to give it a bit and 70 all out valver style.

And yes, tail happy, and yes you are right e5ta, 30/35mm narrower on the back

Whats running rake?? Sounds like a cheap and effective mod

Rake is extrememly cheap if your coilovers are adjustable.

Means the back is slightly higher than the front on level ground. I also run the front stiffer than the back to allow the back to ride bumps rather than skip over them causing the back to "come out." I found this with spacers means youv got to work it hard to get the back round making it far more reliable around faster sections of corners.

mine doesnt read anything for the first 30 seconds and then it hits 50 within about a mile - then slowly creeps up - i dont mind giving the car a good thrashing but i would rather let the oil warm first - better safe than sorry
i liked to be warmed up first im sure my car feels the same!!!

after a bit of a play the other week she got up to 100 - i know thats fine - then let her cool to 90/92 to cool her off - maybe im being too cautious but i dont have the funds to fix her if she goes wrong at the mo

Youv definitily got to let her warm up, if she's not lubricated right then your doing it wrong

100 on the road is a good effort, sure you can get higher than that.

Anything past 120 is high and you start damaging the oil. Dont blame you for not getting to hot, i just find 100 oil temp comes up way to quick.

Got to remember a 16v naturally runs hot so its designed to be able to cater for it.
