:help:

i think this is now the 3rd or 4th time i have had this happen and i am really not happy :censored: .

basically my passenger side engine mount bolt (between the engine and the mount) keeps shearing :wtf:.
Today i was out, stopped at a set of traffic lights, police car behind me so i wasn't going to do anything stupid, waited for the lights to turn green and start to pull away. Next thing i know BANG!!! i instantly hit the clutch and shut the engine off. Polce car behind me starts waving their arms and honking their horn at me. :censored:
after being towed home this is the aftermath.

Passenger side Gator looks to have hit the the sub frame and ripped it.

engine slipped under the mount and got trapped under there. had to push it up using the jack.

i will upload videos of the engine moving about later, just need to upload them somewhere.

I would really like some advice on why this is happening as the high tensile bolts are only lasting 2 months! and this time i am going to have to take tiome off work to get it fixed because the gator needs re doing.

im replacing just the bolt. it’s a high tensile job.
im getting the bolt from a very reputable fastenings company in Portsmouth.

the 2 bolts before this one first one was standard engine mount bolt, the second was a high tensile bolt i had sitting in my shed.

the weird thing about this is; the original bolt (in when i purchased the car) looks like it has sheared in the same way these last 2 bolts have.

all 3 times this has happened, is when i have been pulling away from a stop (most load) but i have not been hooning it away from a stop, just moving away as per usual driving

you got a picture of the mount. You saying the top one into the g'box support mount on the subframe is shearing yea?

I would be tempted to loosen the other 2 mounts when you next replace this one and wiggle the motor around so all 3 bolts tighten by hand so you know no undue residual stress is there and they're all sitting square to each other. You might need to loosen the mounts themselves to allow enough float to achieve this. Once doneup by hand, tighten them all back up and cross ya fingers.

bill

yes it is the g'box support mount.

would it be worth buying 2 new mounts or just replacing the bolts in all 3 the mounts.

also what is the specified torque of the bolts. my local dealer is being a complete :censored: about this matter and ask me for the stupidest things about my car.

i am going to buy the bolts directly from seat this time. hopefully they wont cost shed loads, this way i can irradicate the bolt issue.

also along the lines of getting things fixed, the CV boot that needs replacing, can i pick that up at a local Motaquip or Motor Factors? or again do i need to get it from seat :ban:

bill. i just found out what what may have caused this problem!

on the 'G' engine mount there is a top bolt (which i replaced before).
after trying to get a new bolt in to the top mount something caught my eye.
i quickly got the hydrolic jack and axle stands, jacked up the car and had a look under neath......

There are 2 bolts that go through the 'G' clamp, through holes in the gearbox housing.
so i have been replacing just the top bolt after the first time it sheared, which makes me suspect origionaly that the lower of the 2 bolts and come loose some how. dropped out, then the top bolt having to share the load of 2 bolts.

so now that this is the case im hopeing that after i get this 2nd bolt in i wont have problems any more!
