Want to do several things to my car but not sure in which order to do them.

Looking at....
  • Wheels
  • Remap
  • Brake upgrade
  • Suspension upgrade
  • Tints
  • Rear Lights
  • Any other bits (suggestions welcome)

Obviously that lot will cost a fair bit so I can't do it all at once.

Just wondered what peoples opinions were on the order of doing the above?

Remap and Brake upgrade would be at the top of my list if I were in your shoes. Reason being... the remap is the best value for money mod for your car and will give a greater gain and a more noticeable improvement than any other. So you'll feel you'll have gotten value for your money. Then brakes second as with more power comes more speed, which in turn means more work for your brakes. So adding a safety item to the power mod is a good idea, IMO :)

From there... Suspension next, so you can get the best out of your car and the power it now has. No point having all that power if you can't make 100% use of it!

Next would be wheels. The standard FR+ wheels are nice enough to not make this a priority, but changing wheels makes a massive difference to the way the car looks. This would have a big impact on your interest in the car too, as everytime you see if you'll be chuffed with how good looking it is :)

Then tints, as they are a nice cosmetic feature and are genuinely nice to live with in the summer in my experience (had them on a previous car of mine and loved them!).

Then lights... last on the list because there aren't that many aftermarket options that look better than the standard ones, IMO.

But before lights, I'd do the DogBone engine mount, both Forge short shifters and a new air filter. They all offer much more than new rear lights I think and are things you'll appreciate each day in a practical use. They also help get the best out of your car.

So there you go... my long winded thoughts for you. And yes, I'm bored and waiting for food so have too much spare time on my hands at the moment

Probably, but I'm working through them! A combination of being off sick (knee surgery) for a month and quitting my job (lost all motivation to work now my notice has been handed in) means the amount of time I spend on this forum is quite unhealthy

Warranty wise do you have to get your car serviced by a Stealer?
Or will Seat UK accept servicing from VAG Specialists?

remap, suspension and 18x7.5 alloys made the biggest difference drive wise. in that order.

id add a boost gauge to your list. very confidence inspiring knowing the turbos doing what it should. keeps the paranoia down ;)

havnt done the short shifter yet... but will.

UK law says you can have your car serviced by any garage so long as they service the car to the correct schedule and use manufacturer approved, OE or equivalent parts.

It used to be the case that you had to have your Seat serviced at Seat to keep your warranty in tact, but the government put a stop to that a few years ago as garages were bumping up the price as they had their customers over a barrel.

Well i have to say I disgree with the above stating remap first. I really wouldnt get the remap first at all.

My main reason for this was that if you get a remap your going to have to change the clutch almost immediately or later on adding more cost. Its very well know its a weak point on TDI's.

I think:

1) Suspension
2) Straight through exhaust
3) Panel filter
4) Dogbone mounts
5) Brake upgrade
6) Remap and clutch
7) Wheels

Reason why i done it in that order apart from advice from the SCN crew on here is because all of the above in that order made nice difference to the car. first three made the car far more responsive.

well it is ppls own opinion on whats first, like i have gone down different road but i'd say brakes are a very important mod esp if going more power so brakes then map etc, but each to their own

Looks like I may have to pay Jabba a trip.

Service, brake upgrade (probably Black Diamond discs), possibly clutch upgrade, suspension (H & R cup kit) and remap is my current plan. Probably get some cheaper things done too like getting a green panel filter and dog bone mounts.

With the brake upgrade will I only need to do the fronts to 312mm then just upgrade the rears when they need replacing?

How much drop can I get away with on the suspension?

That should keep me happy for a while.

Now off to search for some answers to my questions aswell!

Wheels wise I've looked at these so far......
Opinions welcomed (good or bad)

As jonjay said....

Note: Funny how all the petrol boys posted up Remap... as remap on a petrol has no real effect on there clutchs, but as they dont own a TDi remapped it doesnt come up the idea of the clutch problems! Not diggin at you petrol boys but funny when i read the posts.. all petrol boys post straight up even thou its not a TDI hes asking about... thought it be best comin from TDi boys mainly becuase the TDI and 20V have different characteristics in weight, suspension handling and power delivery...

Anyway, back to the point in hand.. as jon jay said...

If you do all the suspension, mufflerectomy, filter/induction, dogbone mounts, brakes, and finally remap AND clutch.

But if you go somewhere like BAS, PTorque or any other company that can alter the maps then you can have the map tailored to suit the car, with no clutch slip.

If you just go for all out, massive, as much as possible power and torque then of course you'll have a problem. And any tuner worth their weight will know that. But a good mapper will map the car according to it's limits, and the clutch is included in that.

Any tuner mapping cars beyond what they are capable of should be avoided, IMO.

Yes this is correct Rob, but the only thing i see wrong in that, even at standard level some clutchs are on the verge of going, so even a slight remap can destroy the clutch, and the problem is, if your going to pay near £500 for a remap, yes we TDi's have to pay £200 more than you petrol heads, to get a "MILD" rempa to save the clutch, its £500 wasted when you cant use it.. and 2nd of all, all that "mild" power you want is great, till your on the motorway and go to over take in 6th gear and the extra boost slips the clutch... yes it will even with a slight upgrade in boost pressure in a remap.

So you choices... if you went with a mild remap, you always have to be in the right gear over 2k rpm and wont get all the power that the TDi can deliver.

Or buy a clutch, it can be remap to full capablities, you can put ur foot down at ANY REVS, and it will pick up and ease of mind when overtake in 6th gear isnt going to ruin your day.

as they say in game shows... "the choice is yours, and remember the cuddle toys is yours already"

Sorry i dont mean to be rude Rob and other petrol boys, but if you dont own a TDi, you wont know the problems that occur with hikes in power, suspension and etc will do do an engine heavier than yours and a power torque level that delivers in a very small band... not to say you say isnt right sometimes, just think sometimes, best to see a TDi verteren post up the TDI engine bits, e.g. like devonmikeyboy, utopia, triple D etc etc etc

Petrol remaps are £500 too you know ;)

And I'll stay out of anything relating to diesel engines from now on.

tbh if your gonna spend £500 on a remap in a diesel, then you might aswel chuck in the £150 for a clutch upgrade :)
