my car wont rev over 2.5k/70mph

juts coming home from Asda, jump on the m'way and car seems alright, get to about 70mph in 5th gear and the car wont go past it, drop to 4th gear and car revs but wont go past 70mph

no warning lights so carried on driving (only live one junction away), and come on A roads, car feels like its being held back and not revving properly. now this has happened before and it went away after putting in neutral and revving the titts off it, but has not worked this time.

what could this be, will have to vag-com if when i get time

this is not the time i need to be dealing with stuff like this, got rear breaks to do as well, the discs have just had it

Does it return to normal after switching off & restarting ?

Sounds like limp mode - not sure if you'd expect a warning light though ???

drove it today as was fine

there was a fault code about positive deviation but i stupidly cleared the codes and forgot to record it

if turo vanes are sticking thats what happend on my first hyrbid turbo, turbo went into th f*vkuing bin, and had to fork out £800 for a new one as they had seized :(

if the turbo has gone then i would rather do the upgrade to a pd150 turbo, but want to make sure what is actually wrong before i start purchasing bits

Before you replace the turbo... make sure the actuator is able to move freely. And you might check the turbo control valve (N75).

Many perfectly good turbos are replaced before their time.

Often limp mode resulting from an overboost or underboost just requires a restart for normal operation. But if it's happening every time you drive, then you need to get it fixed.

doesnt seem to be happending every time.

took the car out today twice and its not happened.

i'll have to look into it more later on in the month unless it happens every time

i had a very similar thing with a simple air leak
although vag com check has probably ruled that out

yep correct, and a good clean helps also.

Sound slike variable turbo vanes sticking due to oil residue on housing .Have known people who have removrd turbo & cleaned out by washing through with engine cleaner.
