problem help required??

1999 2.0l 8V GTi cupra

Righty needs some knowledge of someone….

Stuck in that Ultimate petrol on Monday night then filled up again yesterday morning and lastnight I needed to fill up again….. stopped at the fastlane in asda but couldn’t use my card so started up the car and moved it into the kiosk area…… filled up the car with petrol and went to start and it failed to start…. Engine turns but doesn’t want to fire….

Not had any problems with the car since I got except when it was getting cleaned up from the garage and they jet washed the underside of the car and it failed to start then….. 20mins later it started…

Car is sitting in street now…. Dunno what the hell is up with it!!

Any ideas? I am a hopeless mechanic LOL

i knew someone would ask..... nope did not put diesel ..... checked my receipt to double check lol

just wants to turn but not fire.....

got break down coming out again!!

any ideas or any had same problem....

has your main ht lead popped off either the coil or the distributor...
are you getting a spark from the coil... youre probably best leaving it to a pro if your not mechanically minded

if its turning and not firing it could be a lack of a spark

well that one sounded like dampness in the distributor cap probably...might be worth popping it off and spraying some good ole wd40 in there, recovery people will prob give it a go anyway. failing will prob check ht leads and spark plugs!

had breakdown out again but didnt check a thing....

me and my mate had checked before he had came and found there was no spark coming from plugs and that there was nothing coming out of the HT lead or the coil!! (use of test lamps)

Trip to scrappies on saturday i think!!

no wouldnt have thought so, its a common problem on VWs, seams to letgo when starting the engine, rather than while its running,

nothing to do with fuel at all....

it came down to the connector that is behind the engine which leads to coil.... think its the cable from ECU?? but anyway the earth had snapped on it causing to much current to go through the coil causing it to melt the gubbings inside..... check see if ur coil is rather hot when its not on and check see how hot it is after just starting or turning over.... if really warm then i would suggest ur coil is on its way out!!

Cost me £20 for the same one from a scrappies....

But what u have said about the fuel, mines was the same length of time! but dont think it has anything to do with the fuel....

hi thanks for the reply.. would that coil park stop me from getting a spark? As ive checked all the spark plugs this morning and they are all sparking??

problem i had was that when u checked the plug covers there was no spark at all!!

Went to the HT lead on the dizzy cap and there was nothing!!

When we found the broken earth we knew there was something wrong and then noticed the severely melted coil!!

I would say if ur getting a spark then its not the coil!!

......???

if it was the fuel u would get a car starting with a bag of nails inside it!!

try the fuel filter could be blocked!!

Even though its gettin fuel through to the engine the spark plugs stink of petrol...?? Im totally stuck what 2 try next!

HAs any1 got a Haynes manual they cna have a quick look where the engine air strap is as I think its this that has gone??
