Alloys - opinions please!

Just want some opinions from you peeps in relation to alloys.

I'm looking to get some 18s for my pre-facelift Cupra:

I've found the style I'm after (Rota SubZeros), but I'm not sure about the colour to go for. I think Silver is a safe bet, but they also do a gunmetal version with a polished lip, and I can't help but think that could look good - i just think it's more risky (in that it might look crap).

Gunmetal (although I think in reality it's actually a bit lighter than it looks in the pic):

If the car was black or yellow, then I'd go for the dark alloys no question... I'm just not sure how well it would go with the Imperial Blue. So what do you reckon? Stick with the safe option of silver, or take a chance with gunmetal?

If anyone has pics of Imperial Blue Leons with dark wheels they would also be appreciated!

na your right i think, brighter would look better with that colour.

saying that Robdon's leon looks spot on with dark wheels and it's same if not similar colour to yours. search for pics of it.

Brighter silver, for sure. Not just because I think they will look better, but because I'd not recommend or want wheels with a polished lip. They tend to look quite nasty quite quickly in my experience.

But anyway... silver would look very good

Just found his homepage with all the pics... you're right - the dark wheels look the absolute nuts!

I get the feeling however that they'd only look so good if the car is kept spotless... and I have to admit that my car spends a lot more time grubby than clean!

dark wheels will look right

1. Because blue and grey go very well together
2. Because you have the grey plastic type inserts on your bumpers the grey in the darker wheels will suit this

HOWEVER

the spokes on those wheels dont go to the edge, and as a rule of thumb, if you go for dark wheels and the spokes do not go to the edge, the dark part of the wheel actually makes the alloy look alot smaller

so perhaps consider the silver brighter version OR find a set of dark rims where the spoke goes to the edge of the wheel

food for thought perhaps....

silver will look like just another set of wheels

dark will look good as the rim will make it stand out but they willl make them look smaller - with 18" it shouldnt be a problem though - i reckon it would look just right

chrome bolts would break it up a bit more

Are there any places near you that sell wheels? These wheels in particular I mean? If so, get over to them and ask to see the wheels stood up next to the car, then you'll be able to judge for yourself what looks good and what doesn't.

Unfortunately not... the only place I've found with these wheels is online (and the actual shop itself is miles away). As such I'm just having to go with how I reckon they'll look.

I'm confident that the style will look good, as they're fairly similar to the LCR wheels but the colour issue is causing me real headaches!

I'd definately go with the gum metal alloys think they look alot smarter stand alone. my sister boyfreind has a blue saxo with dark wheels on and they look the dog's ....... u kno,gud luck with picking the right ones for your car

The other bonus of gun metal is that they dont show the break dust as much!

After seeing those pics, I have to admit I've changed my opinion somewhat. The darker ones do look very good against your Leon.

Agreed - my mind is made up... gunmetal wheels now ordered!

The silver ones look bigger. Although the gunmetal ones do look good. maybe 19" gunmetal.

Waah! I can't believe it!

After all the to-ing and fro-ing I ordered the gunmetal rims, and after the comments on here I had convinced myself that they were by far the superior option. Then this lunchtime I get a call from the shop to tell me that they're completely out of stock!

Apparently the manufacturers only have the silver ones, and won't have any more gunmetal ones for at least 6 weeks

I'm desparate for the new wheels, as my current tyres resemble racing slicks, and are of very questionable legality. But forking out a few hundred quid on new rubber when i'm about to change the wheels would be a complete waste.

Looks like I'm back to silver
