Is this a must have on the altea, I have seen a couple of cars that have it and a couple that dont, obviously the ones that do have it have the larger screen with pic of the doors open etc?

YES - a very useful option to have. Keeps you legal for a start!
This option gives you the larger display (as you've already pointed out) that enables access to various settings such as coming home lights delay etc etc.
It'll also be a good feature to have come selling on time.

Its a worthy option to have. As mentioned it will save you points on you licence. Its also a lot neater than fitting an aftermarket number with holes and cables everywhere.
The sound comes through all speakers so sound quality is very good.
The only things to watch for is phone compatibility. But even if you have a phone which wont download the phone book names can be stored and use the voice activation feature.
If I don’t get another SEAT next time around (but I probably will) this is one of the items that the next car must have.
