but on the coastdown lap, on the way down the back straight, it went pop.

When will I learn? :roflmao:

What a great day at Croft though, good atmosphere, lovely circuit. Nice to see the Awesome gang and a big thanks from me to the Vagcars.co.uk crowd for a good laugh, help and guidance, particularly Blade.

I melted my rear T1-Rs, as did Craig & others, but I was really pleased with the handling of the car on the new setup. As for my driving  perhaps I'm past my prime.

If anyone there heard the young lady I was with in the morning and who I took on the under 16's parade laps call me granddad, she's a cheeky monkey. ;)

Sounds like you had a good day then, Granddad ;)

Did you get any action shots of your car? Always like seeing those :)

Who me?
There are pictures! Just waiting for Ali & co to post them later.

Delude young lady told all around her about the loud mouse trapped in my engine.

(Reversed 007 :D ) Apparently it's audible 30m away.

oldest maf killer in town!
sounds like a fun day other than the pop bit.
any theorys on why they keep going? vibration?

:D Age doesn't come into my MAF killing prowess, Pat. (or maybe it does - changing up at 5k to 5.5k helps )

My past is rallying, rather than roundy-roundy but yes great fun. I'd like to think that's got it out of my system- but I doubt it. Croft is 10 mins from home by back roads and even with the MAF down, I had a great drive home. :D

That's another MAF failure that absolutely convinces me that it's excess airflow that's killing them. I hammered it round the circuit, if vibration was going to fix the MAF it would have happened when I was racing. I think I always managed to change up at around 5.5k. (In spite of a few 'what gear am I in, stir it round- there's one in there somewhere' moments.)

I had TC off all the way, but I definitely got that unmistakable MAF dies hiccup on the cooldown lap (carelessly revved it over 6k in 5th.)

So yes, I believe my car is too powerful for 70mm MAFs.

Most of my rallying experience was in the days when we were allowed to run proper events at night on the public road. :D :D :D I lived in Cumbria then -the roads were a tad quieter in those days. I've driven some events on the loose but I always preferred the tarmac stages. When the family came along I stopped driving and moved into the other seat behind the maps. I've been with some awesome drivers and some absolute loonies. I've spent my fair share of time hanging upside down in the trees. (still in a car)

you going bt dave?
I am supposed to be leaving the UK and moving to the South of France. The car has got to go then. Things are in limbo until we sell our house. Until then, I have far too much time on my hands and the temptation to do more things to the car becomes irresistible. :cheeky:

Are you parked waitin for others to catch up or giving a head start??? Looks good!!!!
 You could say that!
On a positive note, I was really impressed with the 18month old Galfer 1055 pads and tuning discs. I've never given them so much sustained hammer. I was expecting to get some fade but they seemed to improve when they got hot and continued to bite hard to the end. Similarly, I've never moved away from the Seat Sport suspension because I can't really lower the car because of the bodykit. I've had a Neuspeed rear ARB on for quite a while but adding a Neuspeed front bar has made the car very sure-footed.
go bt and take her with you!

what cars did you drive rallywise?

If only I could take it.
:hide: you've just asked that so I have to show my age again.
I have had (and written off) many Mk1 Mini Coopers and Ss. The best ones were the 999cc (short stroke screamers 1 litre class ) A 1430 with petrol-spitting 40DCOE Weber and a baffled lorry fuel tank in the boot (seriously 13mpg). Lotus Cortina mk1. Escort Mk1 Mexico. A highly amusing V4 Capri. Escort Mk 1 TwinCam[B)] . One of the first prepared Mk2 RS2000s. And do you know what really pisses me off? Most of that time, I didn't own a camera! Then, I went navigating. Years of head down, popping pills to stop being sick. :funk:

that car is screaming for bt!
looks very good mate.

You're very nice to me! The body kit is an acquired taste. Some days, I get the urge to take it off, other days I say hey, that's the way that car has always been.
