I think I'll call him again tommorow now I understand the fpr's a bit better. but I wouldn't have thought he doesn't have the tools/knowledge because he does alot of VAG work inc. big turbo upgrades and I've always found he knows his stuff.

Ask him what software & what tools he uses
then research it! It might be cheap, but at the end of the day - you need to be sure it's the right thing
I've seen the work of his big turbos. Leave a lot to be desired.

As said i would use a 4bar just to be safe, it's only £40 IIRC and then if/when you wana go BT or just map it harder you'll already have one.
me too, id get the 4 bar regulator and then at least you can eliminate that out of the equasion should you get any problems....
well I've just ordered one to be safe. If I don't use it I'm sure it'll be easy enough to sell tho.
