Oil sump question?

Hi people. My mates just got herself a 1.4 mk2 Ibiza (she's joined the family!)
But while giving it a mini service the other day, i noticed a wee spot of oil dripping off the bottom. I had a look underneath & i think theres a small rust spot on the sump thats causing it. I've got a new oil filter waiting to go on but im worried that if its cracked & rusted all the way threw then the oil will just come pissing out!

Apart from a new sump, does any1 have any suggestions how to fix this?
I've got some exhaust putty in the shed.... do you think this would be ok?

If its the sump thats rusted get a new one. They're cheap about 2-3 pounds.

an oil sump!!? £3!!?? eh?
i phoned my local "stealership" & they said £60 + VAT!!!
Then £55 an hour to fit.... & it may take up to 3 hours! cause they'v got to take the whole engine out!

I wouldn't think you need to take the whole engine out to remove the sump?!? I need a new oil sump for my car because the Idiot who had the car before me pretty much glued the thread for the bolt. Meaning even the mechanic couldn't undo the bolt. They said if they put any more force on it, the chances are the oil-sump will be fcuked because the bolt will be threaded. So I need to buy a backup sump. I'll check Heynes manual to see what they have to say about changing the oil sumps but I think its just a 10 bolt jobbie.

EDIT: OK, I've just checked the Heynes manual and if summed up it goes something along the lines of:
1. Remove exhaust downpipe
2. Remove power steering pump or belt (cant remember now)
3. Undo the all the bolts on one side and turn the flywheel to gain access to bolts on the other side
4. Whack it

Oil sump is out, now replace the sump + gasket and repeat in reverse order.

I doubt its rusted through, more likely a crack from an impact even more likely a leak from the sump gasket

There a bit involved in taking the sump off but 3 hrs is taking the piss somewhat

does the book tell you to disconnect the battery sump first? lol

That would be the Oil Sump Plug which is a bolt with a copper washer, the sump is the pan which holds the oil in the bottom of the engine
