TIP question

has anybody ever noticed how the forge silicone TIP seems to crease at the top bend when an aftermarket induction kit is fitted? surely this can't be good for airflow? i had the same thing happen when i had my raid/ramair filter and it does the same thing with a BMC filter fitted. would it be alright to trim maybe a centimetre or so off of the MAF end so this doesn't happen? with the MAF and filter on the end there just doesn't seem to be enough room under the bonnet without this happening. my thinking behind this is to trim a bit off on the MAF end where the diameter is pretty consistant rather than the turbo end where it reduces down to fit on the turbo. has anybody else done this or heard of this happening before?

if i had my time again before i fitted id have trimmed up to an inch off the DV spout branch

the LC one fits ok at the airbox/MAF end though

Whereabouts does it crease? Is your BMC supported from underneath in any way or is the TIP supporting it's weight? If the latter option, then perhaps making up some form of bracket to hold the weight of the BMC might cure this problem?

mine has done exactly that karlos, i'll show you it in a couple of weeks...

i asked forge if they could supply a new piece of silicon to connect my MAF to the dynatwist.. i was looking for a slight bend to raise the tip and lower the dynatwist.. i think i mentioned it in my cold air feed post..

they said they couldnt help

That's the image I had in my mind. In that case, I think some form of bracket to hold the air filter in place would do the trick. Something with a bit of flex in it though, to enable it to move with the engine, but something strong enough to hold the weight of the filter in a specific place.

I'd guess this is an LCR Forge TIP problem - I don't have that issue with my Forge TIP.

shame forge didnt really try to help.. maybe as more than one person has this prob they might now...

Rob its not a weight prob. the filter needs to be that low to get cold air feed on.. if we had a 30 degree connector this would raise the tip and angle the induction kit down to allow air feed to fit.

My filter (and MAF) are supported by the Forge TIP at one end. The filter has a springy bracket at the other end but it doesn't force the filter downwards there.....

It only supports a portion of the weight. That end of my filter rests on a bubblewrap 'cushion'.

Gotcha... I guess though if it's even partially supported at the opposite end to the TIP it could be enough to balance the weight difference a bit? Thus meaning it's not top-heavy on the intake side, which in turn means it's less likely to be bending the TIP down under weight? I'm just going from imagination here by the way....

i can only speak about my dynatwist but if i was to raise the filter up anymore i wouldnt get my cold air feed on.

thats not really do-able. i could raise the filter quite easily but then i'd have no cold air feed.

Is there no movement in it at all? Not even just enough to stop the TIP flexing?

i have a jabbasport induction kit, which uses the original mounting point in the passenger wing to fix it in place

If the Jabba induction kit is fixed to the wing as well as the TIP, then I'd be surprised if you had the same problem, as the kit would be nicely held and supported. I'm not entirely surprised that free-standing kits that are held solely in place by the TIP are affected, but if it's secured at both ends it should be OK?
