Fitted me BF Turbo back last night, whilst i had the down pipe off i had the usual look about, the turbo seemed to be slightly worn, bit of play in it, think it could do with being replaced or recon,
does anyone know what other turbos fit without any probs?
Does a TD04 fit?
Where should i get it recond, how much should it cost just for the recon?
Is it an engine out job to get the turbo off?:-o

Hey BCM. Sorry, I'll be of no help in this thread :(
But can I ask, how many miles have you done in your car, and did you drive it hard? As i'm sure it'll be of interest to the other LCR owners out there about turbo life!

Bill:
no theres a bit of oil before the turbo, poss gasket or seal, but there is a bit of play inside, it still boosts great and hold a perfect 0.7bar on load in 3rd after spiking about 0.8/.9, the inside of the turbo was nice and dry, thank god you've put my mind at rest bill!

Number86:
Cars just about to go in for it 90,000 mile service tomorrow (its a comuter car and i like to drive it!)and it does get a bit of a hard time, but only when properly heat up and ALWAYS let to cool down!

bit of oil before turbo is most likely engine breather system and not turbo itself. crankcase and cam cover fumes go back into the TIP remember.
there is some play in these when no oil pumping thru to float the bearings/shaft when spooling.

If it was oily and wet on the hotside then yea its toast and you would have been loosing oil and chuffing blue smoke

dont worry - be happy

theres play in the end float, bout mm&1/2 at the exhaust side. is this normal when the engines off,
the bit where i bolted the downpipe on to the turbo was dry - no oil there!

what turbos bolt straight on?
one of my mates is a jap mechanic and claims scooby turbos go straight on,
he's talking bout td04 turbos and things, is he talkin out his ar5e or does he have a point?
heard the IHI uses a scooby turbo, true?

scooby is VF IHI series.
I don thave any info on TD04 but would be amazed if it "simply bolted on" let alone if was in fact any better or not
