considering an FR tdi

Hi,

I'm hopefully going to look at some Leon FR's this weekend as I'm in need of a new car :)

I think i've narrowed my choice down to the Leon FR tdi or the Golf GT (140); I've not looked at or driven either yet so i'm still to be convinced.

I was planning on getting one on PCP putting £2k down. If I were to order one would I need to pay the full deposit in one go or some now and the rest on delivery?

Also, any ideas of the current lead time? 12 weeks is a long time ;-) especially before summer!

Thanks,

Craig

Forget the Golf GT. Save 4-5k and buy a fully pimped out TDI FR!

I collected my zenith Grey FR on Saturday:

Optional 18" Alloys
Bluetooth connectivity (an absolute must)
Convienience pack (auto lights, wipers and dimming rear view mirror)
IPOD connectivity

This car is a seriously fast diesel. Monster fuel economy and an absolute animal. I cannot even begin to describe the enjoyment I get from it. It is refined but utterly brutal.

I would suggest getting a decent test drive. My dealer let me have it for 3 hours. That was enough to convince me to drop 4k of my own cash plus my Focus Titanium without breaking a sweat.

I would suggest hunting out a nearly new (ex-demonstrator if you can get it). Save yourself a couple of grand and it's nicely run in, ready to burn!

thanks, I'm looking forward to having a look. Hopefully they won't take much persuasion in letting me have a test drive. I know some dealers can be a bit an*l about it unless they're 100% sure you'll buy one. I'll be going to the dealers in Shoreham (nr Brighton) and then check out The Deal Negotiator.

Might not have to wait 12 weeks, depends what spec you want. Some do float around as extra stock.

I bought my FR at the beginning of Feb, think it was with the dealer 10 days later and I took delivery on the 1st of March. I only wanted the 18 inch wheels.

Earlier in the same day, my sales chap sold another red FR with the 18s and bluetooth on it which was already in the UK.

So far I'm loving my FR!!

Originally I looked at getting 140sport golf, then I wised up and bought a leon fr for the same money new. IT was a no brainer since the FR has more power, is nicer looking, has more kit, and the FR is a group 12 insurance.

BTW the GT is 170, unless you are buying 2nd hand you wont get a 140 (the first ones out were 140).

The 140 Golf is group 13 insurance, and the 170 GT Golf is group 16, and again the FR is only 12..

Although i have ordered an FR (company car) for investment purposes i think a Golf holds its money better. Personally i felt that the FR was more fun to drive and came with more toys but the golf was better made. Question is, if you pay more for the golf will it be worth it in the end? Either way both cars are good and id be happy with either.

Without doubt a golf is a cool car, though at this stage its not the car for me, im 20 and at uni.. Someday I will probably get one..

For now im very content with my diesel fr, equivalent to the GT TDI for a lot less money, plus they aren't as common.

Hi Craig

Welcome to SCN.

You'll love the FR great car, dont be put off by instant reaction to the interior, dealers usually remove the ash/oddment tray and it makes the interior look bland. the armrest and the interior ali look trim make a massive difference.

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure the SEAT dealer in Shoreham only sells used cars not new:blink: Check out Seat.co.uk to make sure but i think the nearest dealer will be in Hastings or Gatwick - my g/f lives in Worthing so i'm down there all the time.

Thanks Guys. From looking at the Seat website it looks like they do new cars but if not I don't mind going to Sidlow (Gatwick).

Is the ali look trim standard on the FR or is it an option? At the moment i'd probably get the bluetooth kit, arm rest and possibly comfort pack; oh yeah and Red on the outside :funk:

Yes your right sorry Craig  Frosts in Shoreham sell new but Frosts in Worthing only sell used.

The Interior Kit is part no IP1064730 see www.Seat.com not standard but absolute must imo.

Not all students work :funk:

Anyway, id rather put my money into a car than piss it upagainst a wall! :)

Im also on placement next year with a decent wage..

I'm just jealous because I had to wait till I'd finished uni before I could get my FR, mainly because I couldn't be bothered working whilst at uni - ah well, good things come to those who wait i suppose :p

well I test drove a silver FR TDI today with the standard 17"'s and overall I was very impressed with the car  Everything seemed good and there's plenty of poke from that 170 diesel!

One thing I can't decide on is the wheels. The one I drove had the 17"'s and felt fine but I do prefer the look of the 18"'s. Is it likley to make the ride too harsh or the road noice much louder? it is only 1" more?

ok fair enough!

So it is the FR 170 TDI with:

- Emocion Red
-18" wheels
- Bluetooth kit

I think I'll also get the armrest and ali kit but as they're dealer options I'll wait a while.

The dealer is still talking retail price at the moment and says there's not much he can do..... I'm just waiting for a quote from the Deal Negotiator and then I'll be ordering :funk:

Retail price is taking the piss I would say. I ordered mine just before christmas and paid £16300 OTR with metalic and bluetooth. Ok so they were a little bit quiet at that time of year but you'll definitely get some money off.
