Hi there im looking to buy an Ibiza TDI sport ,

but the few that ive looked at are breathing fumes from the dipstick hole and the oil filler cap when released

, is this the norm. with these engines or is this why they are selling them.

the age of vehicle im looking for is roughly 2003

the milage is roughly 50k

im willing to pay £5500 for a good one

Can any one shed a bit of light on the subject cheers

Its the colour you want to watch out for.

White = Ok(if the coolant isn't leaking)

Blue = BAD!

dunno about any other colours..

engine breathing

Thanks for the replies chaps

i have been told that any smoke or steam is bad news

smoke means worn piston rings

steam means possibly headgasket failure

a slight vapour i quite acceptable when warming up

ive had a few diesels before and never had any smoke from dipstick tube when engine is running

i think regular oil changes will help as the oil will contain less moisture to boil off
