it's the differnt hubs on the S3/LCR to the Golf/Leon

The steering arms are at a much better height, and the wishbone pick up is much better positioned, so the wishbones & steering is level, not pointing up

if that makes sense!

these are only an advantage on a lowered car - and I dont really understand how they improve traction ?????? maybe reduce roll on a lowered car but not traction.......care to enlighten us Ian ?

I'll dig out some reviews and post them on here........supposedly a big improvement as you say on lowered cars....also helps premature wear on the inside edges of tyres that afflicts MK4's especially running lowered suspension and bigger wheels.

Certainly car has improved with 4 new coil packs....couldn't believe 36-38mpg on a trip out today...something you would never see on an Evo with all that 4 wheel drag.

sounds like its going well, good stuff, have been considering the apr stage 3 stuff for my B6 A4 1.8T quattro but cannot bring myself to spend so much on the car when I could have a V8 S4 still in warranty for same dough, tempting though. Then again quite fancy a V10 tuareg.....decisions decisions

Speak to Jim at Awesome re testing at Brunters.....he put his APR'd A4 up against the new RS4.

Tested all increments 0-60 1/4 mile 0-100 in gear acceleration etc needless to say the APR Stage 3 was quicker!!


Evo magazine also used Awesome's APR'd MK5 for some review out next month...believe it was a track oriented article!

APR conversion is a worthwhile kit if your keeping the car....I too was in the same dilema with the MKIV. My main deciding factor was what I had already spent on my car ie brakes diff suspension bushing roll bars I/C etc etc etc. Losing a shed load to start all over again was pointless. Only car I found a big step on 'out of the box' was a Evo FQ MR340...too expensive to run service etc.

RS4 nice but very heavy and still commanding £20k for average mileage cars...still weak brakes again...big bucks to rectify and again running costs!!

Tourage sounds a good proposition...strong residuals especially V10.

Well, you all know might thoughts on Aweomes Stage3+ A4, BUT...

I've never driven a B6 S4, let alone a new RS4, but I would hope that they were both faster or at least felt faster on the road than the APR A4 because of the lag (not helped by the lightened flywheel, I think). In the APR A4, 6th is useless below about 100. Owners might occasionally track an Stage 3 A4, but for the money it's not the first car you'd pick as a track day car.

I think the issue is that you can spend £20k and have a 1.8T Quattro (I wouldn't do it with a FWD, although I'd be interesting to see what one was like) that's got 360 odd bhp and goes like stink, something a bit special/different and perhaps a car that you can use as a bit of a project. Or you could get a V8 S4, with dealer warranty and have the S4 interior, etc etc
Or if you want an RS4 for 20k, get a B5.

Again, I'll state clearly, I adore the Stage3+ A4. If was going to BT a car, it would be an A4Q as I have a philosphy about not having "weekend specials" when it comes to cars/bikes. Mine need to be driven every day, or there's no point. But, when you look at the cost (and it's not "expensive" just "high cost"), you're back to looking at S4's. If I was looking for a track car, it wouldn't be an A4Q (I don't think it would be anything VAG).

So, it struggles to fit in any category, if you catch my drift. An A4Q with a K04-23 might be a better option for a road car.

How far off topic did I just go :blink: ?

Well you know we use ours everyday Phil :) We had an issue with the rear diff on ours which was causing a juddering etc. We've changed it over now and its superb again. I love the car to bits and cant wait to get it on the strip at inters again this year.

Phil....certainly very pleased with the conversion on my car...not laggy at all, could be a weight/extra ttransmission losses on the Q drivetrain that may amplify any lag issues.

One reason I chose the APR was the everyday usage and it's proven reliability in the US and worldwide.

Hmm, I've thought long and hard since I make that last post, and I have to say I'd still love to take an A4Q and Stage 3+ it. £55K performance for £20k? Bargain :D

In fact, I now wish I'd have bitten the bullet and done it...

P.S. Maybe the juddering rear diff didn't help the drive :shrug:
