Re-map FR TDI 170

Hello, I'm new on here and have just bought an 06 plate FR TDI (170), Its not a bad looking motor in Black magic, the bodykit and the 18" wheels, its pretty nippy but was wondering how much extra HP I would get if I had the chip re-mapped? Would it invalidate my warranty and would I need to upgrade anything if I did it?

Warranty is a grey area.

If you went to get something on Warranty, then the dealers would then have to prove that the remap was the cause. So if your turbo blew up ,then they may have a case, but if your wheel fell off, then no lol

Not sure on the performance figures on the MK2 Leons, but the MK1 Leons typically get around 40-45 bhp extra off a remap

You may need a new clutch though, again, not sure on the MK2.....

Hi, welcome.

You'll find the search button on this forum works ;)

Start by searching this forum and the TDI forum for DPF It isn't pretty reading regarding TDI and re-maps.

Tuning a TDI FR Mk2 is not as easy as the Mk1's because of this DPF.

There is one company that claims to have done re-maps from 170 to 204, however the last person who had this did a rolling road afterwards and got 176bhp :(

At the moment, we are all waiting to see who can do what, but i wouldn't hold your breath.

All the more reason to buy a MK1 :D

Mk2's all the way :) - just need some patience (or buy the petrol version!)

However so would argue its all the more reason to buy the sport with the 2.0 TDI 140 engine. This doesn't have a DPF so is re-mappable to 185bhp easily :D

I think it was 176 at the wheels so most probably nearer 200bhp at the fly - but as you say, early days in regards to the DPF.

yep that was me ,
the 176 bhp was the result at the wheels and not the fly wheel. the result at the fly wheel works out at 195bhp as there is roughly12 % loss due to all sort of things
(look at the other trfreads concerning this)

Seems this DPF is either a deliberate addition to stop tuning or a potential weak point that was overlooked.

It's a deliberate addition to comply with stricter emissions regulations.

A part of me loves the fact that our diesel doesn't smell like a taxi. As a cyclst this is good technology.

However I'm always a little bit suspicious of emissions tech that makes the original engine less efficient. Like catalytic converters etc. Doesn't seem to be a good engineering soltuion to the problem.

I went along to Star performance the other day to ask about remapping my 170 TDI. He advised me that they wouldn't touch it due to problems with the DPF....so will have to wait and see if they come up with a solution... still the cars pretty quick now :)
