so ... if 8v's do 130+ presumably 16v's are quicker top end why the need to buy 1.8t's or think about fitting one:shrug:
so top speed for a mk3/4 is ... 140/150?
my beat's limited to 140.. oh sorry forgot thats kph's[:@]

I'm doing the trackday at RAF Marham in a month or so. A chance to legally max out my Ibiza as I believe the main straight will be around 1.5miles.

i hit 125 in my previous 8 valve, down a hill, hit the rev limiter and thought i better brake now! but i wouldn't rely on the speedometers to be honest! also, my fellow 8 valve drivers, i would say the best part of the 8 valve is when your roling at about 10 mph, then you shove your foot to the floor and the speed is pretty nippy low down! same in second gear! thats the best bit about the engine imo, what do you all think?

Well I got 115 out of my 1.4!
But it was completely in the red, and sounded like it was gunna blow up and I was going down hill with the wind behind me!;)

WTF?! I had GPS and my 1.4 topped out at 99mph n that was down a very steep bit of the M27 lol! Think it had more in it but got scared cos engine is already slapping so didnt wana make it worse!! I tried it again since and it started to top out sooner at 92ish. only thing that has changed is its got an induction kit on it now... Any1 know if fitting a kit is detrimental to a 1.4's power?

On a straight, don't expect to see much more than this...

Downhill or slip streaming, there's revs spare to achieve a bigger top end, but doesn't do it under it's own steam

My 1.4 wont do 100, even with backbox and cold air induction, on mk3 cupra wheels.

I agree. Love the low down grunt. Always puts a smile on my face :)

185/55/15 to 205/40/17 @ 115mph speedo will read 1.9% too slow

not considering its accuracy anyway say 5% out could actually be doing 123 or even worse 105 :)

couldnt tell you on mine as i'm a good boy and all my gear/wheel ratios are non standard anyway @ 110 im just changing to 4th

thats mine too! it was so bizarre, tops out at 125 with still about 1000 rpm left, that was on a straight for about 2 miles, nothing else was left in it, i really want those extra revs, standard wheels too!!!

Not too bizarre, given it's torquey characteristics, and the fact peak bhp is around 5.5k revs, meaning it's got no more *legs* to take it any further. Power dies off quick after that.

As for 1.4's, they should be good for a ton. Mine was quickest in a straight line with 13" steelies & k&n, would reach 105mph in a straight line. Rubbish after 17's were fitted, worse still with cat-back exhaust, lost pressure.
