I did my first trackday on Saturday which was excellent but had a huge problem with brake fade, they were very good to begin with but after about 5 laps were useless. I came in after 1 session and the pads were smoking - alot!:(

I have 280mm tarox G88 grooved discs and strado pads. Now i can't afford a big brake kit and different wheels so my questions are..........

- is brake fade caused solely by the pads or is the fluid to blame aswell???
(i have dot4)

- Is it ok to change pads for a trackday (say, use the ferrodo ds2500 or 3000) and then switch back to my strado pads for daily driving?

- Should i run a dot5 fluid and is this practicle/usable for daily driving?

combination of both I suspect.... pads giving out (smoking is a clue) and boiling fluid.
DS2500 work fine as road pads so I doubt you would need to change them for road use, combine with a good fluid like motul rbf600 which is a very high boil temp and you could use brakes this hot>

and be blissfully unaware that they're glowing red hot as they keep working saem as usual.

Thats the combo in mrsB Lupo on std 280mm disks (eliptically grooved) in the picture @ Oulton Park last year.

motul fluid is £8.99/500ml bottle +vat, DS2500's are £73+vat

the motul fluid is dot5 right?

I thought it gave a very firm pedal feel???? Not too much for road use though, no??

motul rbf600 is actually a dot 4.... dont get hung up with dot5.1 is better as its not neccessarily higher dry boiling point, only less hygroscopic (less water absorbing, which severely reduces boiling point)

motil RBF600 is within 5'C of Castrol SRF race fluid which is muchos expensive.
I used to boil my brake fluid on my ibiza, but changed to rbf600 and it went. sworn by it ever since. not daft money either unlike castrols srf stuff.

if your brake pedal sinks to the floor, long pedal, then its boiling fluid, if the pedal is hard but not stopping you no matter how hard you push, then its pads glazed and cooked.

You deal in brakes dont you? My rear discs and pads are wearing extremely thin, Do you have any rear discs and pads for an ibiza cupra r or reccomend any good ones to stick on the back?

a slightly off topic but going with the flow.

i tried out of interest to lock my brakes on my 1.4 from 50 (ish) with very heavy breaking. standard disks on front and drums on back and i did not get the car to break at all. infact i must say the breaking performance was very very dissapointing. is there anything i can do, on a small (ish) budget i can do to make my stopping distance better. on a small budget because im a poor student hence the 1.4 :(

std ones work fine I think. (they do for me including racing on them)
same as lupo gti rears if searching around. (G&S and the like)

I have just been advised by Seat Garage that my front and rear pads are wearing thin and will need replacing soon. They have quoted £220 for front and £114 rear:blink:

I was thinking Red Stuff all round and then fitting myself as it can't be that difficult, what do you think of these and can you supply them?

If yes, what are the prices?

pads are very easy to fit. so are the disks!
on my old civic i replaced pads and disks all around, 1st time i have ever done that and it took me around 2 hours. MAX.
source them else where and save your self a wad by fitting them yourself

You can go with std brembo 280mm fronts and std rears, £25+vat each fronts and a little less for rears, plus redstuff's

I can supply these yes
