This week i've developed a knock/clunk from the front nearside wheel area. I've heard it 3 or 4 times, normally when i hit the brakes suddenly in reverse. Whats it likely to be? Drop link or something??? Can't really feel it through the wheel much but there is a definate noise and its slowly getting louder.

status subject to change
some pads move which may produce a click when changing direction, ie forward to reveres..
changed the pads lately?
if it didnt used to do this then probably not that.

otherwise it could be a number of things, wear in one of the joints.
wheel bearing.
drive shaft
loose wheel bolts.
track rod...

Cheers for the list mate, i'm pretty sure it won't be brake pads as i changed them a few months ago, and this has only really developed in the last week or so. It's when i initially hit the brakes so i was thinking of a joint, although i will check the wheel bolts just in case........

I had a knock like that. I tightened the antiroll bar bush clamp and it sorted it

This is one of those problems that really needs time on a ramp to sort. That way you can check all linkages, bushes and clamps are tight and correctly fitted.

My first post, just found this site today. I had a similar knocking sound on my Cupra develop yesterday. Had a dig around tonight and found the top part of the front offside suspension spring (about 3" long) wedged inside the rest of the spring, that explained my front end knock.

Mintex do some sticky pads to go on the back of the brake pads that the pistons bite into, you can also ut these up and you can stick it to where sides of the pads sit in the caliper.

Lotus sell the pad things to go on the ap callipers on the elise but they ar enot cheap so I now go for the mintex sticky pad things.

NB make sure the areas where you are looking to stick these is clean and dry
