hi mate, i'm going through this at the minute. Found some pink gunk at the bottom of the radiator which confirms the slight loss of coolant i'd seen.

Basically you're looking at circa 100 pounds from euro car parts or GSF.

ECP sourced one for 40 but when i got it the box (quite clearly) said 1.4/1.6 .....

Apparently there were 3 possible sizes on the computer and they couldn't work out which one I needed until I measured it for them.

It's never easy!

Yep, well, from euro car parts I had to measure up. If you take measurements, it's just the metal core you're interested in - don't worry about the surround. You might find it easier to measure with the front grille off.

Although having said that, GSF just quoted one price and didn't mention anything about measurements. They quoted about 85+vat if i remember correctly but at the time I thought ECP were selling them for 40 [:@]

For the record the one they're sending me is 630mm x 320mm x 32mm (width, height, depth) although i think that can change depending on the year of the car, 8v or 16v and whether or not you've got aircon.

Good luck :) Hopefully i'll have mine by friday - i only ordered the it on saturday. Oh, hang on, no, that's not very quick is it?!

update,

new radiator arrived this morning. when i took the old rad out and compared the two, i realised the hose connections are on the wrong side (brilliant).

So I phoned ECP back again and the right radiator is more money again, so tomorrow I'll be visiting halfords to get some hosing and I'll rig up my own piping.

yeah, i was less than delighted, put it that way.

they couldn't get one in time for me - i work over easter, starting on monday, and it's a 55 mile round trip - he reckoned one from VW/Seat would be around 110+vat. The one i picked up today was 103 all in. Got to add on the cost of new hosing though.

Picture from yesterday, old against new.

The pic shows the side that faces into the engine bay (i.e. the back of the radiator). The pink gunk is where my leak came from.

They've got different mounting points at the top and bottom, so they only go one way up. The hose connections are in blue and the temperature sensor connection is in green.

Off to halfords (after a bacon sarnie :funk: ) to get some hosing. I'll put some more pics up later - and I'll get a pic of the stock hosing too.

Cheers
Anthony

well it seems that no-one in this godforsaken town sells lengths of radiator tubing, so i've put the original rad back in and i'll just have to cross my fingers....

i'll exchange the radiator again but i won't be accepting any extra cost. they can throw in some g12+ too as i've drained the system once already now. will let you know how i get on...

goin by the pics and looking at mine it is the same as ur old one with both pipes on the rite hand side as u would see it sat in the car.

just a quick one, when i pcked the car up and drove it back home i let the fan cutt in to make sure it was wrin prop and it made a real loud noise so then looked and the rad was not sat on its proppre place so put it in the slots at the bottom but dont know how the top is held in place.can u help?

sure. The radiator is actually mounted in quite a strange way, but it does work quite well.

at the bottom of the radiator it has 2 little plastic pegs which sit in holes from another bracket.

the top of the radiator is secured by the two bolts you can see on the slam panel. you'll see when you take the rad out that two rubber mounting pieces clip onto the top of the radiator. the top of these rubber mounts have a channel, and as the bolts come through the slam panel they locate in these rubber mounts. i think it's to stop vibration in the radiator? it's quite difficult to describe but it will become clear when you take the radiator off!

ps, as you look at the radiator as if you're sat in the car, they're on the passenger side of the car, near the battery, on mine at least.

Mine gave up a couple of summers ago after the car had been holed up in a garage for a few months whilst I was overseas - there are indeed three different rads for AGG engine code 2.0 8v in 97-99 Seat Ibiza, being for:
manual box without a/c
manual box with a/c
slushbox

New one was sourced from Euro Car Parts after measuring the core depth and figuring which one was the right one. IIRC it was about £100 incl. the taxman's vodka and tonic.

Update!!

Right, first off, thumbs up to ECP Bristol, who sourced the right one, and it was only 38 quid. Bargain.

I've now got the right radiator in, very easy job.

For those of you who were asking about the mounting, I've put a couple of pics up.

Top of the rad has a hole at each end
DSC00025.jpg

Into which the rubber piece goes. you can see from the rusty lines where the end of the bolt sits
DSC00026.jpg

A slight bit of a leak beforehand  :

and a gratuitous 'car in the air/bonnet up' shot :D

yes, and yes :)

the part number from my car was 6K0 121 253 AC
it's a non-aircon 8v and the radiator hosing is on the same side as the battery.

the p/no that ECP use is 203442040, to replace VAG 6K0121253AC.

Total (inc vat): 38.08

Worth noting the OEM is Valeo, while this one is Nissens. Seemed to be of just as good quality as the Valeo item that came out of the car though.
