Sneeky mate and his Ibiza

Lads I have just bought a Leon 1.8T Cupra 02 plate, I know most of you drive LCR’s but having driven a 1.2 Clio for the last 3 years I am finding the Leon Extremely powerful.

The problem I have is my mate has just went out and bought an Ibiza 1.9 TDi Cupra 3d:headhurt: the BHP is lower but the torque is rediculas at 330Nm. Is this a faster car? I don’t mean 0-60 but throughout the gears?

We are both considering REMAPS and I assume the diesel will gain more from it.

The answer is it depends what your doing. If you floor both cars in 6th gear the TDI will probably be quicker. As far as top end i think the 1.8T is slightly faster. 0-60 the petrol will also be faster. It all depends what your doing really.

Well i would assume the same but if you read the stats on the TDI it does 0-60 in 7.4s the Leon Does it in 7.5s. Doubt we will end up racing but we both have sensitive ego's lol

Sorry thought you meant the Leon Cupra TDI, the Ibiza will have a slight edge as its a lighter (smaller) car. Although the differences will be very small and it will have more to do with the driver than the car.

Is that the 160PS tdi jobby? That's a lot of "torques" for a little car. Must be well rapid!

For what its worth a remapped 20vt will nudge past a remapped 160 tdi. myself and chris had a run together a while back, even uphill theres only a slight lead to the leon.

That is true...

I had to let roly past as i felt bad being stuck infront of him... cant remeber what car we were stuck behind, but I didnt have the legs, to pass it down the straight.

I think you possibly lunged down the inside :worship: . I didnt have the bottle, but as said... there was Sweet FA in it upto about a 80 ish, then the 1.8t was a touch quicker.

Ive gone down santa pod with a stage 2 Ibiza cupra mk4, and only past 80 ish again did he start to pull, usually finished with a 3 mph greater terminal.

I'd say it was all too close to call...

Granted the 1.8t is quicker, but very very very marginally after 80 ish

all down to the drivers im afraid.

That remapped tdi has matched LCR territory then hasn't it! Impressive.

Yup, i have an old vid of my standard LCR against Tripple D's "tweaked" and now dead MK4 TDI, and there really was sod all in it. At pod i think he was 100th sec faster, but he was minus his rear seats etc. Quick little cars those dirty diesels....

The annoying thing isn't the fact a mapped TDi is as quick as a standard LCR... it's the fact you're getting twice as many miles to the gallon while chasing! :censored:

;)

Oh without a doubt, I enjoy the LCR so much I'd not consider changing it at all, I'd rather the higher fuel costs as the Smiles per Miles factor is superb :D

Im sure it is...

I just cant justify the switch from the diesel to petrol now :(.

For similar or better performance, road tax would rise by >£100, and fuel economy would more than half :( (1.8Ts hate stop start traffic)

I guess I am never going to own a fast petrol car

Stop-Start is definitely a fuel killer, mine drops dramatically in rush hour traffic :(

ha, i used to spend £30 a month when i had the 1.2 clio now it is more like £110, doing slightly more miles though.
