so why have you bought one then?;) seriously mate stop worrying! bill and wliko had a few problems but on the whole as a 340bhp turbo they seem pretty good!these forums are great for getting good info but also make you paranoid;)

you say that steve, but I know of 10 IHI's now which have failed for housing warping and bearing failures or both. Just cos you dont read about it on here, (there is a world outside the net) it does happen.

keep boost levels sensible- then they're fine - Same as anything. Run em hard and you eat into the margin. Its more luck than judgement - "You feeling lucky?"

it was stated as £100 and sent via usps. i have never got charged using this service.

never use fedex, for some reason i always get billed from them.

Risky as feck.... as the stated value is the insured value....

playing lotto with the courier service.... Could end up as a big $$ loss to you, vs ducking import duties/vat

yep risky! but i have never had a package ever lost in post. its the chance i am willing to take, and it worked and i have saved 1000s in total for the parts i have imported over time.

and i am glad i didnt go spend the extra 2000 plus on the IHI seeing the situation on the bearings going. might be a better performing turbo im not sure, but i dont think its worth the extra 2000.

I havent had it ported and polished yet. I will get that done whilst having the rods and valves fitted. I had an opportunity to purchase a large port head but i was told i would also need the cams.
Do you think i would benefit then going large port intead of having my original small port polished and ported?

Theres a place I know that does a new full head for peanuts.

Depends how hard you want to go?

I had a part from EIP coming from the states and it went missing for a few weeks. It turned up in the end, but it was enough to make sure everything is above board in future...

I would'nt be too paranoid, look at Songmans LCR, he's been running that set up over a year now and 40000 miles without to much problem. At about 1.6 - 1.7 bar of boost! He did have trouble with the turbo bearing cartridge, the cartridge droped and seized the turbo but that was down to a faulty DV.
This was the only problem though. I think if you do regular oil changes, let the car warm up, cool down you cant go far wrong with the IHI turbo. ;)

You should be fine. 330bhp-350bhp is a safe limit for the IHI. I suppose any more you might run into risks. Its like anything, start pushing the limits and anything could happen. Its down to luck! Im hoping once the rods are changed and head is either replaced or flowed around 370bhp! It will be pushing the turbo though, fingers crossed!

I ran a IHI VF34 (20) at 1.6 bar and the bearings went after 8k:( , so now i only run it at 1.4 bar and turn it up with EBC when needed if ya know what i mean;)

Phil, do you still run an IHI? If so how many miles have you done on the new turbo? The EBC is a good idea. ;)
