They are about £60 to replace i believe, what are you currently experiencing? how many miles have you done. It is a VERY common problem with the diesels.

You could notice lack of power, more soot out the back etc.

I have heard about some people un-plugging it, but i cannot see how this would work. Easy to change though!

VAGCom is one way of finding if its faulty though.

if the maf is propper fooked un plugging the maf may make it run slightly better and that tells you that the maf is most likley the fault

if the maf is only on it's way out it will just make it run really badly if you un plug it

yes I think vag-com or dealers can tell if the maf is on its way out
hope that helps ya

i dont understand this vag.com.... do you buy a plug th plug your lap top into it drive the car then go onto the internet with a load of codes abd find out what this means?

you buy the lead and software, once installed on your laptop you can connect it to you car to check for logged falut codes, but more commonly you can do logging of blocks to see if a part is faulty or not for example for the maf see here :-

sounds like the MAF is dieing then, either get vag com to check or go to a meet where someone has to to check your car.
