anyone had alarm problems

Hi everyone,

We picked up a 6 month old 1.9tdi Stylance about 3 weeks ago. We have been delighted with it - until Monday!

On Monday evening the alarm went off several times, and then went off again early Tuesday morning. It did the same thing 3 times last night.

Its parked on-street, right outside our window. We couldn't see anything that might have triggered it.

I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow, just wondered if anyone had had anything similar / any advice. There has been a recent thread on the Leon forum, but I couldn't find anything on this one.

Cheers and thanks,
madjay

Not on my Altea, I did have a similar alarm problem on a previous car. My theory was the ultrasound transmitter / receiver breaking down or the battery changing voltage ie. poor battery. It wasn't vibration. Sometimes it would do it, other times it wouldn't. I've rehomed the car now and to my knowledge that problem has now gone away else I'd get told about it.

Best to get it sorted under warranty.

Try switching the interior sensors off one night using the button at the bottom of the drivers side B piller by the seatbelt. If it doesn't alarm you have a problem with the ultrasonics which may just be as simple as a spider crawling around them, failing that as Tell says take it back to dealer for inspection.

I have a Toledo Sport (like Altea) and also have had some problem with the alarm going off on occassions for no apparent reason!

The suggestion of switching off the interior sensors is a great one, but Seat didn't even fit this switch on my car :(
So I can't leave the sunroof on tilt vent when I leave the car locked!

I have a 1.9tdi stylance and I was getting it quite often. The dealer ran diagnostics and said it was a faulty alarm sensor.
Good old SEAT parts sourcing kicked in and 4 months down the line they reckon they couldn't get hold of one so after a bit of kicking off they fitted one of a forecourt model.
It solved it a bit but I still get the odd occasion when it goes off.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've just dropped it off at the dealers - now I'm at the mercy of the SEAT parts and service network!

I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers,

That wil be a dropping voltage. Car alarms monitor electrics as well to pick up for the battery be messed with etc, ignition turned, so faulty resistor / electrics could trigger it off if the Alteas alarm works like this.

Had this kind of problem on a 52 plate Passat Estate we owned before the Altea,at first it was the bonnet switch but the showed as being open on the dash

Fixed that by replacing it,its just a microswitch, but then the alarm would periodically go off, showed no fault codes,

On the Passat forum it was found that the rear washer tube was leaking onto the switch, they dont like being wet:(

Its worth spraying all locks and switches with WD40 or similar occasionaly

Is the modified boot lamp something that the dealer does as a resolution? I have had my 1.9TDi Reference Sport since the end of January and never had a problem until the weekend.

It went off on Saturday, Sunday and then again last night. I don't know when I get a chance to get it to the dealer, so would be good if I could let them know what the issue was so that they can have parts to fix when I take it in. They are about 30 miles away.

Just as a warning, there have been instances (it happened to my mate) where your alarm starts randomly going off during the night. Took it back to the shop who fitted the alarm and they found nothing wrong. It never happened when he stayed at his mothers either. After a couple of weeks the neighbours were getting p*ssed off with it, as was Steve so he left the alarm off one night. Next morning, the car was gone.

Feckin Pikeys just spend their nights wandering round peoples cars and bumping them to set off the alarm. When you leave the alarm off, they nick it.

I am taking the car to the dealers on Saturday. I'll post back with their diagnosis. The guy I spoke to on the phone suspects the Door Control module.

Dealer said that the Door Control Module is faulty. They are hoping a replacement will be in mid week. I hope so too as the alarm went off twice during the night last night and 3 times the night before! The neighbours must love me.

It is rather annoying that the dealer couldn't disable the alarm for me. I don't want to have to put up with this for much longer.

I am slightly disappointed in Seat. I moved to the Altea from a Skoda Fabia. This had an alarm, with the volumetric sensors and I never once had a problem. Less than 5 months of Altea ownership this shows up!

Got a phone call from the dealer to say that the part has arrived. Car is going in tomorrow to have the fault fixed. Hopefully then I can get a decent nights sleep without the usual 2-3 disturbances from the alarm going off!

When you say you did this, did you get this done at a dealers? My alarm is still going off. I am taking it back to the dealers tomorrow. I mentioned this boot lamp issue, but they knew nothing about it. Is this something that Seat have identified?

I asked the dealer about this and they cannot find any information on this technical bulletin. They also contacted the Seat UK technical team who also knew nothing of this.

My dealer asked if you are sure that this is a problem that was identified on the Altea. Can you please confirm, and if so give me something which will aid the dealer in identifying the technical bulletin.

Thanks,
Paul
