Exhaust Temperature Sensor

It's just not my week. Picked up the Leon FR TDi last Sat, on the way home I kerbed one of the wheels badly (now repaired ), and now, 300 miles from new, the car has gone into "safe mode".

Happened this morning on the way to work - the glow plug light started flashing. Got the car to work fine, but when I started it up again, the service light was one, and it was in it's safe mode.

Phoned the local dealership (Listers Coventry), and they agreed to have a look at it this afternoon. After having it for about an hour they told me what the problem was. It was a faulty "exhaust temperature sensor". They've ordered the part, and have asked me to come in first thing Tuesday to have it fitted. Apparently it can be sorted while I wait. Top class service!

The car is still fine to drive, but feels like it's had it's balls cut off - really does feel like a 1.2 at the mo. damn it.

I think this sensor plugs into the exhaust near the cat and measures the EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures). Bad luck that its gone faulty already!

mine did the same thing with about 700 miles on the clock.

Noooo your def not the only one,

i had mine done at 3k, now 7k in, ive had the light on again, just once only happend when i started the car, found turn car off and on again and it stops blinking,

cars going in on monday anyway, for other sloppy manufacturing corrections, it will be mentioned

Its been ok since, now got 6700 miles on the clock

Ive had various sensors re[placed in the exhaust system.... its in at the moment having another one done right now.... all in all, its been in 4 times for sensors failing and giving warning lights.... not particualy happy about it to be honest

Oh, Ive got 30k on the clock now, and its only 6 months old. Wonder how many problems I will have after the warranty has run out :S

I'm surprised you havent rejected the car yet. I think you can do this within 6 months of recieving it ..... might be a good idea if you've had this many problems.

today i found out that there is a known problem with the VAG 170 diesel engines if you got to Briskoda forum you can read about it more, it doesn't make for good reading, beware all that make short trips in their TDi's, all off the above are common along with bigger failures, main warning is the oil light coming on.

I found out yesterday that I have a hairline fracture in the sump too.... and its on backorder from Seat!

I dont think they would accept a car with 30 thousand miles on it to be rejected. and its just over 6 months now, I picked it up on the 1st September '06
