Altea False Boot Floor

I know we have detractors on here of the worth of the Altea double boot, but it came in handy yesterday and outperformed cars with normal boots. The day had come to give away my seven year old 32" glass widescreen chunky Sony TV to my brother and replace it with a plasma. These Sony TVs are very, very, very heavy. After a high risk flight of stairs and pushing it up the road on it's stand, it slid nicely across the base of the boot, on the false floor, rear seats brought back up to wedge it in place so it didn't move and it went on a 70 mile trip.

Slid out the other end with no lifting up and over the sill. All the moaning and growing were getting it around all the other obstacles of the garden path, the steps, the corners etc. It worked fine in its new home, the TV wasn't vibrated to pieces in the boot on 17” wheels and the rear false floor didn't break under the weight. The stand went on the back seat.

Thanks Mr Seat, shame you don't fit them as standard on new Alteas now and down to the detractors of this useful design feature of the Altea . A nice easy access, clean flat bed in the back of the car.

I must admit it's a great feature, i hide all my everyday running of the car things under the false floor so when i'm loading the boot up with shopping i don't have to push it all to one side.
I have a plan to put a subwoofer under there one day (when i get around to it)

Can the newer models sans false floor be retro fitted or is it not possible?

Yeah there is a part number I beleive....

It is a greater feature Wilkip since the detractors would have had me empty out all the stuff from the lower floor, plus the spare wheel to put the TV in and then then lift the TV up and over the sill to get it in and out, which would have killed you if it didn't put your back out. As it was you could just slide it in and out.

There you go Klawits delivers again.... it isn't actualy cardboard, it's a bit stronger than that for it to take the weight it did about 30-40 kgms. ABS may be... wait for a plastics expert on that one.

The other thing that you have if you don't have it, is that once the back seats are folded down then you have a hole in the boot, not a level area that stretches from the back of the passenger seats to the rear of the car, so it's just silly cost cutting dropping it from the standard spec.... not to mention having a full sized wheel in your boot must look a bit stupid and difficult to use the area around it. I have a cooler which would be falling all over the place if there wasn't a level area...

I have to agree with Tell that the boot isn't quite complete without the false floor. It wasn't standard anymore when I bought mine but ws still a factory fit option, but I wanted it to soon to have any factory fit options.

I got the dealer to put it in as one of the goodwill gestures he had to do after making a pigs ear of having the car ready on the day I was supposed to collect it and still not getting it right the day after.

There seems to to be a clear divide on here. Those that like the extra versitilty having this part gives and smile (a little bit) every time they open their boot, seing it looking tidily empty - with their pariphenalia tucked away out of sight.

The other side seem to want one continuous 500ish litre space and can't be doing with anything that might get in the way. maybe they bought a car with a big boot becaue they need a big boot. To put big things in.

Maybe next month's false floor thread should be a poll?

... and it's called "safetynet" ... can only guess why: I've stowed it away in a safe place right underneath the false floor ...

and the price is somewhat outrageous: ~ 30 Euro ...

so did you put a sub in there yet Wikip ?

picking up my altea 2.0 dsg next week when i opened the boot the false floor was missing and no spare !

just a pump and a tube of gunt etc

am i right in thinking a skinny mini spare on a 5 x 112 ofset 17 inch tire is what i need

as to the sub woofer i think i am going to get busy with the mdf soon cant have a car that looks this good with no bass in it just got to work out the volume i need & decide if i am going for 1 or 2 10 inch speakers

You need the 18" space saver. I got one out of a new Audi A3 complete with the polystyrene inner for the tool kit from a breakers. Be warned, it's heavy.

As for the subwoofer, I was wondering if a smaller diameter driver in a Bose Wave type enclosure could be utilised to one side of the spare under the false floor. My Dad had some Pioneer subs in his RV that were 6x9s a few years ago. They rouded the sound off nicely without going too ghetto.

I have to admit I am all for the false floor in the boot, but my issue is actually with the lining underneath: having a big (not fat!) dog, I had to remove the false floor, but found that the lining that covers the space saver wheel is rather flimsy and Winston used to crimple it and I wasn't too sure about having him on uneven floor for car journeys... I just had to take some measurements, and a trip to B&Q later my favourite Weimaraner has a comfortable carpetted-up 6mm ply-wood board to stand on.
In my opinion though, the false floor is only relevant when partnered with fold-flat seats (were not available on early Altea models) in order to get a flat surface from bumper to front seats.

I think you'll find they do. It was during the 'middle' years of production that the false floors were skipped.

Quite like the false boot though it is quite heavy and could do with being lighter. Just wish the tyre didn't get in the way when you take it out.

I am missing this false boot in my 2012 Altea XL. I would like to have one fitted but the prices straight from local Seat reseller are waaay too much. It would cost me around 400€ to get a new one and no scrapyards here has them in stock. Also have been looking eBay but no luck there.

Now were starting to wonder if I should build my own. I have found couple pictures and diys from german and russian forums but how about you guys. Have anyone built their own double floor to an Altea?

I attend to hide my subwoofer and amp under there among some extra stuff.

Reading the thread has it been 10 years since I gave my Trinitron to my brother and I took it 5 years ago to the dump in the back of the Altea after he died... I don't think I'd trust the false floor of my Ateca with the weight.

Do you have the bracket bits as klawit gave in that thread. I seem to recall somewhere along the Altea's development line they stopped fitting these false floors perhaps yours is one.

As for the Ateca there are many threads on the false floor, double boot blah, blah. The configuration varies between whether it's 4Drive or 2WD. You might be better off building one if you want to save the money and can't get the parts. Somebody did that for the Ateca since the 4Drive stops short 2" from the tailgate so not totally flat loading although I think that's been done on purpose to stop stuff sliding into it on the basis that 4Drives are more offroad.

Klawit's partner numbers don't come to 400 Euros but you would need to check whether they are good for the XL.

There's an expanded poly thing in the bottom of my boot with an airpump and some gooey stuff that you pump in to the wheel in case of puncture, I heard it does the tyre in and the fitting companies hate doing them full of the stuff so I bough a spacesaver off the bay, Left the poly wotsit in the bottom though so it can bear the weight of the wheel above it!!!

My lad's borrowed the car this week as he's gone hundreds of miles south on holiday,He thought it would be more reliable as it's only three years old whereas his Octavia is 14 years old!!

He keeps texting me saying that he wants the Altea!!
